Well, it was a long day today 15.5hrs , went rather well though, a couple of problems arouse, due to crappy aftermarket parts, but got it to work out in the end, i got my drivers side all finished up and the gas cap welded in. Made the piece with the english wheel at work, guessed at the shape and got it really close, then just used my wood hammer to finish it off. The inner rocker on my drivers sie was too short so i had to extend it height wise. It all works out in the end.

After i was done all this a friend stopped by for a few wobble pops and then helped me clean my shop up so i could put my cab on the truck, what a feeling that was. Just pure joy seeing her look like something again. I am still tingling. Thanks Tyler.

Once he left, i removed the cab and figured out what i was gonna do with the firewall, most will be smoothed, and i wanted something different so i will bevel the edge to mold it all together, if this makes sense good, if not there is pics. What do you guys think, will it look ok. I really wanted to put in vintage air, but the budget will not allow it this year, so the heater has to stay and i wanted it to blend in with the rest,I think it looks a good different. let me know.

71 naughty The truck is going satin black and the green of the engine, thanks and i can not wait till she is back togehter also.

I took sunday off and spent the day with mel, took her and the kid for a walk by the river, then got a babysitter and went riding the sport bike for a couple hours with my brother and i got her a tattoo for mothers day, she wants to get Harleighs name on her wrist, my little present to her.

Well i got a bit done tonite, not a lot but got the firewall tacked on, most of it at least, will finish it up tomorow nite, welded.... that is all for now.

Today i went to get my mig cylinder filled up and while i was there, the guy i always deal with, looks at me and told me i was there way too much, he goes we are gonna give u the big cyinder at half price today, sound good James, of course that sounded good. I went from the second smallest tank to the largest for nearly the same price, sure not gonna complain. Also i went from a almig mix to a 23 gas, and it sure works nicer, a way cleaner and hotter burn. nicer than the stuff we have at work even, so happy.
Well i got the firewall done, welded her all up tonite and all the useless holes, so as of tomorow i have a lot of grinding to do and then start on the body work for the cab, as i am gonna paint it this weekend, well that is the pplan at least, nope, it will happen. anyways here is a few pics and c u later.

WOW that firewall sure does look better. Cant wait to see it done. So u are keeping the stock style a/c . That's cool that u are keeping it, most would have just filled it in and went with a vintage air model. Did u use same gauge metal as rest of the truck. It almost looks thicker but might be the not in person thing.heheheheh great job love all that ur doing.

hey guys, thanks for the compliments, hgs_notes, yah the welder makes a huge difference. my67chevytruck, the idea is free for the taking, unless you want to pay for it. 74chevy454, i wish i even had a stock a/c system, for now i have the stock heater and that is it, i wanted a vintage air, oh well, can not have everything, even if i could fine a stock system i would be happy.

Well i went out to the garage for a bit last nite, got the firewall all cleaned up, it sure looks nice i like it now. very clean. now to grind the cabcorners tonite and strip the rest of the cab for some mud and then primer and paint. yah.

That looks like it should have from the factory. As far as the heater goes, once you put the steering column and master cylinder back on, it will actually give it some balance. I always felt that with a smooth firewall, the master cylinder should be removed from it also. I like this with the heater.

no master cylinder on his firewall.. check out the previous posts.. he has the mastercylinder and all located on the framerail.. sweet set up.. wish my 71 looked that good.. I finally got my frame shortened and painted and I got a line on a factory short bed with factory steel floor. great progress on your build man

It sure is coming along nicely. I did a similar treatment to the fire wall on LemonDrop and it will look even better once you get some paint on it. I am very impressed on how well your welds are blended into the base metal, looks like it never happened. I tend to work a bit to fast to get that flawless finish but a few light coats of high build primmer and it was never their ether!

So what is the mix you are using now? 25/75% argon?

Your right, I had to go back and look. I guess the heater has to go. Just blind it off now. You don't really plan on driving this during the seasons you need heat anyway. And if you do end up driving it when the windshield frosts over, that will definitely motivate you to find the heater/AC set up you need.

Thanx, it sure would make it alotr easier than shortening an original lwb bed, well not easire but less time for sure. glad to hear that yours is coming along nicely also.

Kevin, i checked the bottle tonite, i get mine from air liquide and it is bluesheild 23, and from what i can tell (read) it is 25/75, but not 100% sure, i am gonn ph them on tues and find out, will let you know, all i know is that this is the nicest gas i have used, what a difference!!!!! And thanks for the compliments, you are right it will look better once there is some color on her, i try to tak time when welding, however that does not always happen either. I just have too much to do for other ppl and need to get my truck out of the way. Sound Familiar, i seem to know someone else like this also.

i agree i would like to just blind it off for now, but where i live, i basically need the defrost every nite for the windows. For now i will run this and then i hope this winter , the truck will come back apart for paint, powdercoating and the finishing touches, such as my a/c setup and a few things. just wait and see, i think you will be pleased with the results.

well the other nite i went outside and what a surprise, it was snowing, so much for taking the bike for a ride. oh well. And on to better news. i went to the shop this weekend and got some done to my cab, primed and some color, sure looks nice to me. I think my new name for her will be patches. hehe. i got he rad support and fenderwells and the a couple of other things done, so as of now i am gonna go home and clean and arrange my garage. time to start assmebly.

Iknow, I know, you are thinking what! You bet, i am gonna assemble her right now and then get her running and drive her for the summer then tear her apart for winter and finish her how i want. i got ideas. Anyways, on to pics, there is a few.

I got a little bit of mud work done and then primed most, then sanded and tracer coated the firewall and painted it with my trusty SATAJET.

that looks absolutly awsome. did you ever paint the bed after you did the short box mod? and did you paint your inner fenders the same color yet? itll be kinda funny to see "patches", funky on the outside till you pop the hood looks awsome cant wait to see it all back together and see the fruits of your labor almost complete. are you just going to paint after summer or do you have even more mods planned?
