Re: 58 TRUK intro

i've been driving truk with just angle iron seat pedestals for a couple of years
pass side has a drawer to replace the shaved glove box

since i know fiberglass, i thought i would make covers for them...
i started on the pass side, the seat sides were beige at one time, i had paint left over to color match them to the seats

drawer open

Re: 58 TRUK intro

i use cardboard, tape and scraps of wood to make the shape and then glass over everything
makes it a little rough to start with, but a little filler and everything comes out.
first i made the piece behind the seat belt, cut the back at an angle so i could still get my battery out

and then the drawer. i eliminated the handle, it didn't look right and i could just just grab the bottom lip to open it.
makes it almost invisible

Re: 58 TRUK intro

the drivers side has no drawer, the cable loop is for opening the gass door in the rear fender

finished product

some of the built in features
i'm a gimp, cane holder

gas door lever, push in and the lever pops out, a little pull and the gas door pops open

this is the form before glassing, wood, foil, cardboard and a lot of tape

this really finishes the interior off, i think it looks marvelous

Re: 58 TRUK intro

Came out great nice work. I had thought of putting some in front of the seats or in the rocker steps.

You did a great job

Re: 58 TRUK intro

Suppose you could turn that cane holder into a 12ga holder.

Funny, when I went to school, in rural Idaho, every pickup had a gunrack in it with rifles and shotguns year round, even in the school parking lot.

G'day Ogre,

Exquisite job on those seat frame covers. Just as slick as the rest of your truk. I'm wondering if you'd made your own cane? Love your work.

Trently.

Re: 58 TRUK intro

thanks aussie.
i'm running out of stuff to do on truk, other than drive it
fiberglassing is easy peasy, it's the body work to get it paint ready that drives me up the wall

my sister-in-law made the cane 10 yrs ago from wood on my property, ash stick w/ black walnut handle.
she recently became my ex-sister-in-law, i guess i'll be making the next one myself

Re: 58 TRUK intro

nothing really wrong or ugly about my engine bay or area around my radiator.
just a lot of ''stuff'' on the sides of the radiator, ac dryer, dual horns, fan relay, over flow tank, wires, etc...
6 weeks ago (back in post 121) i made a radiator cover out of fiberglass
finally got it back from my painter, woohoo! (i do everything but final paint)
he did a mavelouse paint job

before

after

the cover really finishes off the engine bay, i might have to make a cover for the cap hole.
it mounts off the 2 top radiator bolts, with a little foam weather strip to keep it off the finish paint on the inner fenders.

Re: 58 TRUK intro

thanks guys.

i don't send out much, paint being the only repeat offender.
i hate when i loose control of a process and have to wait on someone else.
same with my seat upholstery, that guy had me on hold for 4 mths

Very nice! I'm sure you could make a lot of coin, selling those radiator covers.

Re: 58 TRUK intro

thanks sgt, but...

but then i wouldn't have a one off radiator cover
i don't have many original ideas, this might be one of them
(now everyone will post a pic of a similar rad cover)

plus making one for a stranger would be like having a job...

Re: 58 TRUK intro

while i had it in the air i took some pictures of the torque bar from the 3rd gen camaro i installed.
the rear end is on stock spring, flipped on top and minus the overload springs.
while i had minimal wheel hop, when i got on the gas the rear end would tilt up and the drive shaft would rub on the rear x-member.
i looked at making it a 4 link, lot of work on a together truck.
you can see in this pic that the rearend housing has 2 bolt bosses built in for the torque bar.

i got a stock 3rd gen torque bar and modified it

originally on the 3rd gen there was a rubber mount that the front of the bar slid into and worked back and forth as the suspension worked up and down
i cut the mount off and welded on a trailer shackle

the torque bar works great, truk is a tire smoking monster

Out of curiosity where did you put the heater valve? I don't see it underhood. I have the same AC unit and I'm trying to figure this part out. Thanks.
