Re: 56 chevy build (Aus)
Spend the whole night on mounting the Elevel sensors. I was told it was going to be tricky and they were not joking. Not easy to get the travel perfect but some perseverance and it worked well.
just Welded the bottom nipple on.

Blake: That is one tight lookin' suspension. Very nice. I can only image how well that air system is going to work. That looks like a great package. Your work is so clean. Good luck going forward.

Re: 56 chevy build (Aus)
Thanks Dug224, Liking the conversion your doing. Looks like hard work.
Im a sign writer so i thought i would have to incorporate it in there some how. At the end im going to hand paint and silver leaf all the people and companies that have helped me out on the back window. And i am really pleased and love the accuair air control system, so i thought i would wrap my air tank in printed clear so there is no hard lines like a sticker. If you understand what i mean.

Re: 56 chevy build (Aus)
Been Busy. So while paint is drying i got abit of time for a update.
Made more room for the motor as the left was a little to close so i thought i best of just put another recess in the firewall. Also flipped the cab and cleaned it up and sprayed it with some GRAVITEX. Then painted it all in 2k Did all the rear and front guards also. And got my rear slip on slip off exhaust made and sorted out 1 for registration and 1 for after hahaha The 383 stroker should sound nice straight out.

Re: 56 chevy build (Aus)
Well i decided to strip all my panels to bare metal as there was surface rust under the primer. Who ever painted it left it to long before priming it.
And ohh my did i find some interesting cover ups. Alot of work just got added to my list. As i said at the start its a wolf in sheeps clothing. Not a gem at all. Both the cab corners had holes. I have already fixed them, didnt get any before shots as i did want to remember it haha. My neighbors must love me. back to bare metal and hammer and dolly and a light skim of filler. At least now i know they are perfect and done right.

Re: 56 chevy build (Aus)
Also whats the best and cheapest place to buy parts? as you can see i need to buy a lower front fender patch.
When i bought the truck it had a catalog in the glove box. http://www.truckandcarshop.com/4759.html I ordered all my rubber and lights from them, they seemed to be cheap and it fast shipping to AUS.

Re: 56 chevy build (Aus)
Finally got some updates for you all.
I took a couple of weeks off just to try and get motivated to work on the truck. Its been hard to be motivated finding all these surprises under the paint. But im back and have spend the last two nights panel beating and its starting to take shape. Got the cab back on the chassis and started to fit panels. I wont bore everyone with photos of rust but for a example, the front left fender had 7 holes that had just been filled over not welded. Arial hole just filled with putty, dents and repairs everywhere. this is my first ever attempt at metal body work, so don't expect perfection haha

"It must have taken a lot of nerve to chop that beauty up"
I posted that about one year ago right after you started working on it. It looked so good I never would have thought that truck had that much bondo on it. You are doing some beautiful work. Keep it up and keep the pics coming. |
