Re: '50 5 window.....s10 swap
Had a great week on the truck!! Got the rest of my glass put in. Its starting to look like a useable vehicle vs expensive garage art. I ordered a set of chome bullet center caps and scored a free set of new chrome lug nuts from my local chevy dealership. I had to open up the bore on my wheels a bit to make the caps fit but they gave me the exact look i was goin for. I also picked up everything to rebuild the brakes....rotors, drums, pads, shoes, wheel cylinders, seals, bearings and all new hardware. Never done brakes before so its going to be interesting. A friend is coming over to babysit me thru it.

Re: '50 5 window.....s10 swap
southboundee,
skunkwerx, another forum member, gave me the lead. i got them from masseys in Oklahoma City. They have an ebay store and were very good to deal with. I highly recommend them. Here is the link to their ebay store. http://stores.ebay.com/LUG-NUTS-WHEE...id=p4340.l2563 You can find them by searching for bullet chrome center caps. They are push thru style. They have a small lip on the bottom side that keeps them from pushing thru the centers. These center caps are not made for any OE wheels. I had to open up the center bore on my wheels about 1/8 of an inch to get them to fit. It took about 10 minutes a wheel using a air die grinder. I can take some close up pix if you want. Let me know. brian

Re: '50 5 window.....s10 swap
they push thru the back and "sandwhich" between the rim and the rotor, or in my case the spacer.

do you have the radiator installed in the truck yet? just curious as to how it is mounted and fastened... I'm finally to that stage.

Re: '50 5 window.....s10 swap
I have always said that the radiator mockup/install was the worst part of the build....for me. I knew once I mocked up the radiator that I would have to make some changes to the radiator "spouts", not sure what they are called. The bottom spout was at an angle that would not allow me to hook up a radiator hose to the motor. I actually dropped off my radiator at a friends place last week to have him run a 90 degree elbow to the bottom spout. So, to make a long story short.....no, I do not have the radiator in yet. I will post some pix once I get back and put it in.

Re: '50 5 window.....s10 swap
Yeah, I ran into the same thing tonight. I got the upper bracing fashioned, slid the radiator in there and noticed the fan would very likely chop right through the lower radiator hose. I sliced off that lower neck and am taking it to a shop that welds aluminum to re-weld it at a different angle. It's always something isn't it!

Re: '50 5 window.....s10 swap
always....every time I check something off my list....2 more items get added. sounds like we have the same fix for the radiator problem. I would love to see a pic of yours when you get it buttoned up. Im not running the stock clutch fan, so wont have any issues on the top side. I still need to pick up a electric fan and get it wired up.

what sort of fan are you running? I just have a mechanical fan, no clutch though. thought about getting an electric fan as well just for good measure.

Re: '50 5 window.....s10 swap
I just got the radiator back from my weld shop. I had a 4 inch turndown installed. It lines up nicely to the motor now. Clearance problem solved!!!
I havent picked up a fan yet. Im definetly going with a electric fan on the front side of the radiator. If anyone knows of a junkyard good donor fan, please let me know. I hope to hit the yard in the next week or two to hunt one down.

Re: '50 5 window.....s10 swap
I hear the ford Taurus from early 90's or the Lincoln mark 8 are beasts. Got a neighbor who put an electric Taurus on his 454.

Re: '50 5 window.....s10 swap
i have heard the same about the taurus fans. thats where im going to start. I dont know much about how e fans work. I see where some people have a switch that turns the fans on and off. I really dont want to go that route. Im assuming that i will have to install some type of inline temp sensor to have the fan click on at a certain point. Do you know where that sensor is on the taurus??
thanks brian

Re: '50 5 window.....s10 swap
Sorry, i'm no help on the inline temp sensor. I'm gonna run mine from a switch, it will be a small electric fan and then the mechanical fan as well.

Re: '50 5 window.....s10 swap
Well I broke down and bought a new electric fan and install kit from skip white performance in Tennesse. They have a ebay store if anyone is interested. It has a really good read on e fans. Its a 16 inch reversible fan that pushes 2000cfm. I got the fan and the relay kit with temp sensor shipped to my door for 67.00 total. I thought that was a killer deal. Im hoping to have it in this weekend, if all goes well. Here is a quick pix.

That is hilarious! I just got my skip white fan delivered today. I was gonna hop on this post and let you know about my find... Must be that tn telepathy! I'm still working on my radiator mount and the blasted power steering pump! I didn;t take mine out yet, are there instructions on how to reverse it?

Re: '50 5 window.....s10 swap
I have the same fan with a two core aluminum champion rad, seemed to cool my engine for the little bit I had it running, before the engine blew a main. Just got another one put together and it seemed to cool it fine, so far. But I have yet to check it on hot day with my foot on the gas.

Re: '50 5 window.....s10 swap
Vintage,
Like they say great minds think alike. There were no instructions on how to reverse the fan. I called their tech line for some help. They told me that the poles are reversible. Basically......you can either flip the fan blade around or reverse the wiring. I ran 2 electrical clips to my battery, one to the pos and one to the neg and then hooked them up to the fan motor. Depending on which prong you connect to determines which way the motor spins. When I hooked it up to test which way the air was going I had it backwards from what I needed and damn does it push some serious air. I switched the wires and wolllah.....the motor spun the opposite way and started pulling air into the radiator. Im very happy with the fan and especially the price I paid. Post some pix of your setup when you get it in. good luck brian

Re: '50 5 window.....s10 swap
Yah that is true for the wiring, I had to do the same thing. My fan is mounted on the engine side of the rad, so it is set up to pull. Just make sure you are not fighting the wind or you will prolly burn that thing up faster. I haven't made a shroud or anything for mine, but it seemed to keep me at 190 ish, maybe 185 don't remember. But again, I have a different rad, and relay than you probably.

Re: '50 5 window.....s10 swap
thats a really good point. I never thought about that. I have it zip tied in right now so I can change it at any time. Maybe its just me but its all a little confusing. Push or pull, blade direction etc......

Re: '50 5 window.....s10 swap
its actually really simple, if the fan is on the outside of the engine (closest to grill) it should "push" with the wind because you are driving in the wind.
If it is on the inside (closest to engine) it should pull because if you drive into the wind with the fan is pushing into the wind, the fan has to fight that air. you will know when the fan pushes or pulls, I think if you hook black up to hot and blue to neg that will pull. also just put a piece of paper on either side of it and that should tell you. Pushing from what I hear is better, but in some cases you can't get it in front of the rad

Re: '50 5 window.....s10 swap
Right now its pushing, which is how I need it but the motor is spinning counter clockwise and against the wind. I think I will flip the blades around and switch the connections. that should get me where I want to be
thanks again Posted via Mobile Device
