Anyway, here are a few more from the other day .... - - I removed the entire harness from the LT1/4l60 to start the de-pinning of all the unnecessary emission crap ... - - - - - - Then I brought the work home with me ... set up some saw horses, a sheet of 3/8 ply, and started the de-pin... - - - - - - - - - - Everything unnecessary has been removed. Next will be reworking the harness a bit to accommodate the Burban's engine compartment and firewall. Debating if the ECM will be inside, or left on D/S fenderwell.

Re: '62 GMC Suburban "Rust"oration, Patina Build.....
So I received the ECM back from Brandon at lt1swap.com .... fast turn around !
I brought more work home with me .... This time the chassis This way I can solder, shrink, loom, and customize the harness perfectly ... (Not necessarily in that order)

Re: '62 GMC Suburban "Rust"oration, Patina Build.....
So I managed to complete the Harness at home last weekend. Fired it up, and ran as it should with no issues. Reached operating temp, and the fans cycled .... DONE !
So this step it done. I decided to key the OG engine fuse box intact. I started to remove it, but it was a no-brainer to reuse ... all the circuits/relays are there. The box also supplies TWO 60 AMP "body" circuits which is nice. One will power the Burbans body, and the other I will use for a high current headlight upgrade. The "airpump" fused relay circuit will probably be my new horn relay ... And finally, the 25amp "ELC" (electronic level control) circuit will power the air-ride switches/valves. - - - - RIGHT SIDE CAT makes a great coaster .... - - - - - -

Re: '62 GMC Suburban "Rust"oration, Patina Build.....
The Powder Coater across the way let us borrow one of his Rotisseries, and with a few mods to the arms, I was able to fasten it safely to the Burban Body.
I cut out sections of the body mounts to allow as much blasting of the inside as possible. Further bracing was done to help support the load. My plan is to do blasting in "stages" .... This will allow me to work on it a little at a time, without getting overwhelmed, and to keep flash rust to a minimum. The first order of blasting was the entire underside and the floor/rocker/kick panel areas. I will start on this first, in order to build the mounts for B-body Frame.

Cool pics - thanks for sharing the build. Nice looking pup. You guys are getting it done!
The equipment in use can cause envy for "home-garage" types, but I'm praying for forgiveness. Based on the scene and the set-up if I wasn't a gozillion miles away I'd volunteer grunt labor since I can relate to your schedule too. Keep rock'n ~ rg |

Re: '62 GMC Suburban "Rust"oration, Patina Build.....
Blasting is so nice, but it will uncover more than what you thought ... which is a good thing, really.
Phase 1 of blasting was just the underside of body, floor, dash, firewall, and kickpanels. This was so I do not get more overwhelmed than I already am ... - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Re: '62 GMC Suburban "Rust"oration, Patina Build.....
Yep, sandblasting is the absolute best way to to clean up the metal and see exactly what you have....of course as long as the blaster knows what he is doing on sheetmetal. It looks like he knows what he is doing and is doing a thorough job.
I have seen quite a few vehicles come to my friends shop to get stripped that were supposed to be rust free and leave needing a bit of metal replacement. But it's better to find the issues now rather than have it come to bite you in the a** after it is finished. What media does your blaster use?

Re: '62 GMC Suburban "Rust"oration, Patina Build.....
After removing the Radiator support, I was able to lower the body all the way onto the frame !!
- - I think I am good with how the rear of the body is sitting. The rear cross-section (where the gate mounts to) it laying perfectly on the chassis. Drill some holes and add a body mount ... done. - - - - - - Full, uncut Spring shown here. Once the weight of the wood floors, all three rows of seats, fuel tank, etc., I think the preload height should be right on !!! - - - - Glad that floor modification will not be that extreme ... Kids will have only a small hump to climb over .... - -

Re: '62 GMC Suburban "Rust"oration, Patina Build.....
The front however, will need to come down a bit.
The front floor braces will be notched around the frame to allow the body to drop another 4-5 inches. I am not concerned with doing a massive "body drop". I just want the body to sit low enough without raising or modifying the front metal section of the body. Bad enough my wood floor has to be modified I have plenty of room, and the trans to tunnel clearance is huge .... - - - - - - - -
