Re: 1950? S-10 tdi
did you have any trouble with a safety with wheel spacers?

No the mechanic just said he is not a fan of them. If you are worried get a safety without them then go home and put them on.

Re: 1950? S-10 tdi
i've never seen a wheel "adapter" be illegal, and i've seen them run off-road races just fine. an adapter being a large pc that bolts to the hub, and a wheel bolts to the pc. a spacer is just an elaborate washer that moves the wheel out on the hub studs, and those are definitely illegal over like 1/8" or something.

Re: 1950? S-10 tdi
121mi in 4 days, so far no issues really, other than my front marker light unplugged itself.
Put upgraded injectors in yesterday (needed to for the tune) now getting 7psi should be around 18psi but I get the boost quicker so it is getting faster lol. It is a fuel quantity problem should be seeing a bit more smoke, so I'm working on figuring that out. I'm still driving it up for camping because there are really no issues driving it.

Re: 1950? S-10 tdi
i ended up "adjusting the pump" ... by hitting it with a hammer. seriously though, i forget the metric, but with the engine running and the VGT cable plugged in as i watched a specific value. my issue was it idled like crap. loosened the bolts on the top of the pump, not so much it leaks, smacked it with a hammer a few times til the value landed in range, and instantly the idle was perfect. tightened the bolts and game on, weirdest thing ever.

Re: 1950? S-10 tdi
i also had vacuum leaks that would keep the turbo from fully kicking in, check for leaks.

Re: 1950? S-10 tdi
Glad the good old hammer mod worked for you. I had several injection pumps on the jetta since you can't buy the internal timing ring that's electronic. The worst offender so far was a junkyard scored brand new bosch factory reman. I had to hammer it over until it idled like an old diesel truck to get any off idle power. It shakes a little but now runs good. Makes me miss the 11mm pump.
Check the turbo arm. It's the waste gate looking thing. It actually controls the variable turbo and how the vanes are set. In other words they control how the initial boost begins to come on. Also a leak in the intake tract after the MAF will seriously defuel the motor. Hammering the pump can mask problems here since you are adding more fuel to the mix even though the computer thinks it's in stock trim. As far as I understand the programming, the computer has no idea what the actual fueling is and only blindly adds or subtracts it based on what it thinks it is receiving. |

Re: 1950? S-10 tdi
Other than down on power still the drive up north 2hrs was a success. I have 360mi on the build so far and all is good, like nothing has gone wrong. The weather has been hot around 80-100* with humidity and the truck is running 160-170* the trans is 150-170*. I got 30mpg on this last trip of 230mi. I have a few new rattles and need to adjust my fuel gauge.

The truck looks great, even the flat bed. Hopefully you can get the low boost gremlin figured out but keep driving the snot out of it!

Re: 1950? S-10 tdi
Thanks Ryan.
Well tonight I got the carpet trimmed and installed, I think it looks great for carpet that should be in a 67-72 gm truck. Had to trim the width and length, but using the trans hump from the same truck worked out very well. I think I can wrap up the under dash wires now, no issues have came up with that in the 500mi I have on the truck now. Truck should be going for sale next week.
