Re: Project: "Home Grown"

New steel floor ft bedside panel = 147.95 from goodmark. HMMMMMMMMM, or just use a spacer? Jank it out or sport the aftermarket ? HMMMM, once again paid money to media blast and prime parts I am not using. So far out of the entire donor truck only the bed floor and ft grille assy and cowl cover used Thats like 1200 dollars wasted

SHIIIIIIIIIIIT, I didn't measure now I have no reference, judging by the looks it took them in quite a bit, but the truck hasn't had fenders on for over 12 years. Call Mario @ CPP he can give you the low down on it, he is a very knowledgeable guy.

Have any of you guys installed a 700r4 into your C10? I already have one but I am lacking a torque converter and necessary wiring components. I talked with bowtie overdrives, they have great products and are good to talk to. But some of these components arent cheap. Is it possible to wire up your own brake switch style kit to cut out the lock up?
I did my 700 w/ the bow tie TV cable and lock up and works great. Now I can run 70 mph or around there at 2000 rpm.I bought a cross member from Brothers I think and shortened the driveshaft. It was a 1 day swap with some help.

Re: Project: "Home Grown"

Well, just pulled the trigger on another Porterbuilt product, this time rear trailing arms, I just dont like the look of the stock ones with all the other items, friggin addiction, now I know why some guys builds are stuck in porterbuilt prison.

Also doing some investigating into the mild dropmember

Re: Project: "Home Grown"

Got my Boyd Welding Fuel tank in today, didn't get a chance to snag a pic yet, will post tomorrow. Also ordered up my cowl hood, correct front bedside panel, and new outer rockers. I don't like how the old replacement ones are fitting the doors, cab & fenders. I also asked to be sent a new right side fender, the one I received was a tri plus and it fits the door at the bottom for sh*t. All of these new parts are due in Friday. Hopefully I will get time this weekend to start doing a little more permanent fitting. And start my bump & prime work.

Anyone know why there are 2 small holes in the top of the tank. I know one is the vent tube, but what's the other one for ?

Re: Project: "Home Grown"

Cowl Hood should be arriving today, does anyone have some suggestions on the best way to fit the hood with these damn stock hinges? I looked into ones from Nate, but I cant swing the price on them hinges, I would rather spend that money elsewhere on the truck.

Re: Project: "Home Grown"

Well, got the hood, fender, ft bedside panel, and rockers today. Few issues

- Hood is damaged a little bit on the rear
- Rt side fender seems to fit better but has a dent in it
- Lt side rocker is about twice as thick as the right side

Im not even sure I like the cowl hood, the center lip looks nothing like the original, and it was 500 dollars, I just dont know if it adds that much to the truck? What do you guys think?

Re: Project: "Home Grown"

Have you had the tailgate on those new bed sides? I replaced my sides and the tailgate doesn't line up very well at all. Wondering if you've had better luck.

Re: Project: "Home Grown"

Not a bad looking hood but for $500 I would use the money somewhere else.

I agree, the stock hood on a 67-68 does not need the cowl to improve on the looks. If you were running 69-72 sheet metal the cowl looks correct.
my 02 cents

Re: Project: "Home Grown"

Some progress is better than no progress right?

Went in yesterday and got a few things done

- Installed PB shock re locators to the front
- Did a little more fitting of the new front sheet metal, including the new replacement right fender.
- Removed my heater box inside and out from the firewall in preparation for smoothing
- Sandblasted and etch primed my old ECE spindles for my buyer of them
- Media blasted tailgate trunions and hinges & etched

Re: Project: "Home Grown"

Some of the rough fit and finish, no shims yet, and doors need adjustment, you can also see that the rockers fit for crap, that's why they are coming off and being replaced for the second time
