Yes, you would. And that brings other headaches, challenges, or opportunities to learn new stuff, depending on your outlook. I'm also not sure what the "recyclers" are wanting for them. Easy + cheap = 383, me thinks.

I have probably over looked it, but I have looked. I am looking for a DIY on the mods that need to be done to the wiring harness for an LSX. I bought an entire truck that I will be pulling the motor and tranny out of, 04 2500 Truck LQ4 4L80E.

I got all my wiring diagrams from autozone.com under the repair manual section and referred to the guidance provided on www.LT1swap.com. But I don't actually have a running engine yet.

my .02 I got all I needed when I did my 5.3 swap from the lt1swap page mention above...it took about a weeks worth of studing the diagrams and reading on the web and about 6 or 7 hours of actually cuting and re routing the some wires \.

Great thread and thanks to all.
I'm putting a 4.8 and 4l60e from a 2000 truck into a '51 GMC suburban. It looks like it all fits pretty well except for the pass. side exhaust manifold. I need something that is shorter or longer, to get by the top of the frame rail. What would be a better stock ex manifold? Also, the engine leaked out orange anti-freeze. Can I run traditional green AF in this motor without any issues? I broke one manifold bolt, but it'll come out. What is the least expensive but proper replacement for those? This is a major league cheapo build. And I'm sure I'll have plenty more questions. I got the motor trans and redone harness for $1400 bucks. Which is cheaper than rebuilding a 6 banger. Thanks again.. |

You can run regular antifreez (I would try to flush all the dexcool out though)
Prestone (others might also) Makes a universal antifreez that is supposed to work with both types. Some people use Fbody (camaro/firebird manifolds 1998-2002?) I am using trailblazer SS manifolds that hug the block nicely (but mine is 4 X 4) I would just get some manifold bolts from a dealer, parts yard? I use copper never sieze as they are prone to breaking. I use a torque wrench also. Good luck with your swap

looks like Dorman makes a TBSS or SSR manifold for under $100. p/n 674785 or maybe the 675525
Do you run washers on the manifold bolts as some are suggesting? |

I didn't as I used stock manifolds and stock bolts. After installing everything and hearing how many have had broken exhaust bolts so a month ago I removed every one and put high temp never seize and reinstalled and torqued every bolt except the couple I couldn't get the torque wrench on.

I used the stock bolts as well, which don't need washers because they are already a shouldered bolt.
I install with antiseize which is common practice for me with anything aluminum. Steel bolts and aluminum parts don't mix well. I used the 3/4 ton truck manifolds on my swap, they are said to be some of the better flowing manifolds out there as far as trucks go. I had to slightly notch the frame however because they kick out a bit, which is what helps them flow as well as they do. I sent mine out to be extrude honed as well. |

Who knows about stock exhaust manifolds? The original truck (2000 4.8) manifold sits just above my frame rail. I'd like it to be shorter by at least 2 inches, or if it tucked tighter to the engine by about 2 inches. I'm looking at the SSR manifolds. They SEEM to be shorter, but I have no way of knowing at this time. Dorman has the repros for about $140 or so with the gasket and studs. The GM Dealership can get me a new GM part(SSR pass. side ex manifold) for just over $80 bucks. (No gasket or studs).
Can anyone tell me if the SSR manifold is actually shorter than the original truck manifold? Thanks. (1951 GMC suburban w/ 4.8 and 4l60 and '65 truck 12 bolt going in) |

I used the Sanderson Shortie Headers CSLS1 and have not had any issues at all, no leaks not fitment issues at all.

I am looking for a cost effective header. Where did you purchase. I do not prefer thin headers.
Did you do the duals or dual to single? Did you place the 02 sensor right after the header? |

No one makes a long tube header for the LS 4x4 blazer swap.
I looked around and only found shorties, which didn't interest me. They aren't worth much power over the truck manifolds, which are actually a decent flowing piece, said to be one of the best LS manifolds aside from the vette. For $500 for shorties I elected to just use the truck manifolds. I simply made some exhaust pieces out of mandrel bends to connect the manifolds to my current exhaust system, which is a dual exhaust. I then welded in 02 bungs right after the exhaust manifolds in a convenient spot. At some point if someone comes out with long tubes, I'll swap over. |

.....most guys are using long tube camaro or chevelle ls swap headers..they seem not to hang lower than the frame...but if it's a 4x4 it wouldn't really matter anyway?

My chevelle and 1st gen camaro doesn't have an LS in either, so I have no idea what those swap headers look like. Guess I'm just not willing to experiment with a $700+ set of headers...but I'd plunk the money down in a heart beat if something out there on the market worked for certain. I was hoping someone would chime in with pics that has actually done this but it doesn't seem to be a popular swap as of yet? |

How about the Doug Thorley headers for LS swaps into 67-72s? I think part # 324Y-C. As for cost effective, that's a different matter.

I used a 98 camaro driver side manifold and truck passenger side manifold. I installed an 02 bung on the passenger side as the manifold did not have a provision. The camaro dirver has a hole provision for the 02 sensor already on it.
I finally got my LS running with 0 issues. I can't believe it fired up at the flick of the key. Now for all the other fun stuff like brakes, shifter, and wiring. Last edited by grennberet02; 11-05-2012 at 02:47 PM. |
