Re: Project 67 C-10

yeah i'm slacking. i know but really it's just been slacking on the updates. got the hood on and had to get new hinges and after all that have to realign the whole front end and try to figure out the gaps and heights. damn hood to fender is just stepping like an sob.getting close to primer as its finally warming up a tick here finally! Also got my hidden latches installed and just have to get some stainless coaed cable and ferruls to make the check straps. You'll see when i'm done with the bed.

thats what I did...2" cowl. My original hood had been sanded till it was so thin it would cave in on the highway.

Re: Project 67 C-10

Yeah it seems to really sit high compared to the top of the fenders so some massaging needed but been working on it. also kind of did something bad but after realizing probably wont be drivable this year bought a 98 mustang to hammer aroind in.

I'm Alive and the summer is almost over Been enjoying alot but unfortunately not alot of work on the truck. I just got so fed up with trying to line the front end up but came to realize it's a truck and was made to haul sh*t. Anyway looking to get some stuff going soon again so i can get some shooting of color down during this fall. fingers crossed.

Re: Project 67 C-10

Heres an update. The pass side of the hood was short at the front by a string 1/8th ti almost 1/4 at the bottom so welded in a filler piece at the front and closed the gaps nicely. need to work on finishing it all up now and some primer.

Re: Project 67 C-10

Well front is getting very close to being done. Found some nice rust holes that were filled with bondo on the front shell so had to cut and weld in a few patches. Then i got the fenders just about even with the hood finally. Pass side is good but one final coat on the drivers and that will be good waiting for putty.

Re: Project 67 C-10

Front is finally all good. Now pondering doing a 5.3 or 6.0 swap instead of the 350. Thinking i wan tsomethoing a little more reliable for long cruises.

You won't regret it...I haven't heard of anyone that has.
get yourself a reasonably low mile 5.3...or a higher miler and go thru it all.

Yeah was thinking of 5.3 for a little better milegae and still have power. maybe a lite cam upgrade. Really would like the 6l80 behind it but looks like it needs to go behind a gen IV motor and they have AFM which is hit or miss with issues of ring and lifter failure and swallowing 1 quart of oil every 1k miles. Getting junk yard motor so you never know what that was running so kinda wanted to stay gen III and there cheaper.

Re: Project 67 C-10

if you're set on a 6L80e....seems like you could get a genIII motor upgraded to genIV specs with a 4x cam gear and sensor, plus the 58x reluctor wheel and crank sensor, and relocated knock sensors...seems you would be able to run the later style ecm's which work with the 6L80e and its on board tcm...or even a 6sp manual for that matter.

that said.... the latest genIV 5.3's come with the 6L80e now. I was looking on car-part for one before deciding to get the trans I did. 6L80/90e's came in '07up 1500HD/2500's with the 6.0 and '10up? 1500 5.3 and up trucks are getting the 6 speed. I know the '11's with 5.3 get it.

check this example:
Quote:
2010 Transmission
Chevy Truck Silverado 1500
LT,5.3,6L80,4X2,12-11
7,500 A AB144 $1500 Ruppert's Pickup Parts USA-OK(Norman) E-mail 1-800-749-9287
Bet with a little looking you could get a low mile late model 5.3/6L80e combo for $2500?

Re: Project 67 C-10

Little gremlin im running into here in Mass is everyone buys 4x4's up here so not many 2wd trannys oin the junkyards. Not to mention prices arnt that cheap up here. if i could fit a 5.3 and tranny in the back of my impala we'd be making a road trip down south or midwest and pick one up. HUM maybe have to measure my trunk up haha.

Well that progress really didn't happen in the past year now. Started back to school has put a damper on things especially the funds but sold my 350 today so now out looking for a 5.3.

Well was a long weekend but pulled out the engine, tranny, engine harness and the dbw pedal and module. Anyone know what else I need before I send this truck to the scrap yard? Was trying to figure out how to fish the obd connector out of the cab harness.

Well 1 year later......Married and more house stuff, started building fishing rods to relax,... but back on the truck. Cleaned the old girl off and got most all the parts finally in one place at my house. I do miss the honeymoon at sandals though. Think i gained 10 lbs.

Re: Project 67 C-10

Started working on mocking up the engine with the LS adapters and ran into a snag. The plates hit the stock ac bracket, but nothing a sharpie and a sawzall couldn't fix. A little persuasion but only lost one rib of the support so should be still strong enough. Also the Moroso adapter plates seemed backwards. If you put them in the sides they were marked it ended up having the poly mounts upside down from everything i've seen. Swapped sides and they seem to fit better. Oh well, doubt anyone ever going to try and read the writing on them.
