Re: DURG's Black 65 C10
Hang in there. The truck looks great and glad to hear you got the correct springs. Hope that storm is easy on you all. Heck, even in So. Cal. it's difficult to get motivated to work on my project in the winter. Add kids sports practices and progress slows tremendously. The overall journey is a blast and seeing project like this truck keeps us all motivated. Looking forward to the updates!

The 18-24" of snow that was predicted was incorrect. As of 8:00 am this morning we had 29" and still snowing.

Re: DURG's Black 65 C10
Rear suspension is now complete. The bolt on brackets will be welded and I will remove the top bolt and sleeves so as not to interfere with the bump stop installed on the underside of the notch. I will also need to weld up the 2 piece Porterbuilt rear end tube mounts when the pinion angle is final. I ended up with 15.5" long arms on the rear bar and it's 37.5 inches wide .095" diameter for a rating of ~175 lbs. @ 5 degrees of twist. I will probably drill some more holes in the arms just to make them look cooler when I tear the truck chassis back down for paint. I used the greaseable bushings. There does look like 10 pounds of **** in a 5 pound bag back here, but everything appears to have adequate clearance and should be fine.

Looks like member meltmetal is hooking me up with a set of Porterbuilt hood hinge supports so I can move forward with my front bracing. Thanks, Matt!

Re: DURG's Black 65 C10
Here are the Porterbuilt hinge brackets installed. I have made a couple removeable metal plates to weld the 1-1/2" metal tubing to that will run down to the frame horns from each of these brackets. The tubing will be welded into the center hole of the plate and ground flat on the back side. The braces will be attached to a removeable piece on the front of each frame horn as well. I will run a cross brace with a 3/4" heim end on each end that will attach from side to side near the front of the motor somewhere around water outlet height. I am also showing the new AAW main fuse block and the aluminum plate it mounts to. This plate attaches by longer upper bolts that go through the firewall that hold the hinge brackets on which are the OG holes used to attach the OG inner fenders.

Re: DURG's Black 65 C10
Slightly shorter so I could have some camber adjustment.

Re: DURG's Black 65 C10
Great work on the support bars.
I highly recommend any drive from Billet Specialties. V-trac or Tru-trac would be my first choice. Vintage Air's Front Runner set up would be my second choice.

Re: DURG's Black 65 C10
I actually sold the 327 that came in the truck when I bought it as well. I am planning on running the turbo 350 that came in the truck too but I have no idea what the stall is on the converter. It has lockup feature which was wired to a toggle switch. I also have no clue about the history /specs of the tranny either. I hate to just bolt it in and go without knowing anything about it. Would a tranny shop be able to help me out figuring out what I have for a converter? I'm thinking the tranny may respond differently with the tired 2bbl 327 compared to the new motor. I have 3.08 gears too which will be harder on the tranny as well. Suggestions? Thanks.

Re: DURG's Black 65 C10
I would take the trans to a transmission place and have them go through it to see if ups to snuff and can handle your new motor. It may need to be rebuilt and/or just serviced. They could probably tell you more concerning your torque converter. Would hate to put it in and then you blown it on your maiden run. One step forward and 3 steps back.

Re: DURG's Black 65 C10
Nice motor, and I agree I'd have a shop take a look at the tranny, especially with that rear end gear.

Re: DURG's Black 65 C10
Awesome build! I like trucks low but I don't want to mess with airbags. I like this setup...
I realize that it isn't finished and that it's adjustable but I am curious how driveable it would be as it sits now? What is the lowest point of the underside? The 62 looks great also. I had a 62 Bel Air that a local guy bought and turned I to an 8 second drag car. Sorry to hear about the furlow. I work for local govt and we have too small of a staff to try it, although they did consider it. Posted via Mobile Device |
