Re: Starting my first build - 1966 C10

Doesn't look like much, but I installed 1" spacers in the rear suspension to give it a bit of a rake once the bed is on. Got the bed wood cut to size - now to tack the supports in place and bolt everything together...

yes indeed. tires included with less than 2000 miles on them. they should look pretty good on a red and black s15 jimmy.

I found mine on Ebay - and had them shipped from CA to MI for about $650 total - and I feel I got a good deal. Buy 'em!

Re: Starting my first build - 1966 C10

Closer... wanted to get it driveable before the employee auto show tomorrow - but - there's just too much left to do w/o cutting corners. Today I tackled most of the bed - I don't ever want to fork with another wood bed again.

The mini-tubs are for suspension clearance...

Re: Starting my first build - 1966 C10

TOnight I got the tailights installed and the rear springs removed; the spring I got for the truck are too soft - and I'm beginning to wonder if they're really Jeep Cherokee springs.

I got one of the fenders painter over the weekend to try to faux-tina....

I'm not the person to ask that, lol. I made mine out of wood bought off a rack, and I used a dado blade on my shopsmith to cut the rail slots. My bed wasn't made to fit my frame - mostly because it is a 1956 89" box on a 1965 97" "Boxed" frame. I also cut off the OEM frame just in front of the rear wheels and built my own to accommodate the Tbird IRS.

So... Nothing fit. and I ordered bedrails w/o holes, but they sent me ones pre-punched for the 89" bed. I had to hand-fab a whole lot more by myself and had nobody to help move the bed on & off the truck. I think a stock bed with a kit that fit, or even doing your own wood and buying the rails would be fairly straightforward - if you had a helper and could assemble it off of the truck.

Driving and working out the bugs. Got tired of seeing shots where the rocker panel was always missing.

Re: Starting my first build - 1966 C10

I'm working up to that.

I need to find some vacant asphalt and autocross around a bit to see how it does. It seems to handle firm and flat, but I won't lie - I've got one too many steering u-joints.

Driver's side exhaust header will get reworked soon to accommodate better shaft angle and lose the extra u-joint.

Maybe you can find a front axle from some small foreign can and replace your shaft and u joints with that ??? a couple cv joints would smooth it out...
