I had a 69 Rambler as my first car (1976), we had owned it since it was new. My dad made 2 or 3 sets of seat covers for it the entire time we owned it. I sold it, like a dummy, in 1983 when i got my first new car. He used the old seat upholstery as the pattern. Cut the new fabric from the pattern and kept the old vinyl to re-use.

Just an idea.

Re: "Sweet Pea" 1975 Cheyenne 20

So I went and spoke with Ryan from Blue Line interiors, he said it'd be no problem to repair the single ripped panel. I just ordered up a yard of cloth and a yard of vinyl from SMS.

Should be here in a week or so! I'm excited for it. Its funny how the more you get your truck dialed in, the more the little things bug you... I'll be happy to not have a ripped up seat cover any more.

Also picked up an OEM factory woodgrain streering wheel from C10Unlimited on instagram. Really excited to get that thing in.

Got a shipping notice from SMS fabrics a day or two ago, so l hope to have the rest of my order finally arrive. Then I can get back to repairing this seat!

Also been piecing together a spare wheel setup for Sweet Pea. I have wanted one in the bed for quite a while, but never found a good deal on the OEM in-bed mount. I ended up scoring one from LMC for christmas, and nabbed a decent hubcap at a scrap yard. Working on cleaning that up, then it'll be just a matter or ordering another wheel. I'm on the fence for the spare, whether or not to shell out the big $ for a matching Wheel Vintiques 16x8, or just go cheapo F$%^ E250 van wheel 16x7.

Here's my find from the junkyard. They were all pretty grungy but they'll clean up nice

Re: "Sweet Pea" 1975 Cheyenne 20

Finally got my seat done!!! So happy with the results. Ryan from Blue Line interiors does top notch work! SMS came through with the material, albeit 3 months later than expected.

Decided to recover the entire seat bottom, and since SMS only sells by the yard I had enough to do it. Ryan found and fixed some broken springs, re-welded a tilt pin and added new foam. The seat feels a million times better and looks fantastic!

Thanks boys! Yeah I'm really happy with how it turned out.

Moving on to the next projects: Finally bought a spare 16x8 from wheel vintiques, and working on the hubcap I found at the salvage yard. Hoping my tire shop will be open so I can get a tire mounted on it.

With it raining on and off a lot lately I've been narrowing down the leak I have going into the cab. It seems the water is pooling in the rear window slider channel, then since my truck is usually parked at a slope left or right, it'll travel to the low side and leak out of the channel and down into the corners. The seals and felt on the sliders look like they're in good condition, but it doesn't surprise me that they leak...

Untitled by awesome_adawson, on Flickr

Untitled by awesome_adawson, on Flickr

So now the question is how to remedy this? I don't want to replace the entire rear window, but I'm not sure how else to stop the leak? I like having the slider, its convenient to pass things through to the bed...

This is still one of my favorite trucks on here. Well done. It's nice to start with a solid truck and work through the little things. Seat looks fantastic!

Re: "Sweet Pea" 1975 Cheyenne 20

Yeah, my dad got those in order to convert from 16.5" to 16 " and radial tires. It's the second paint job.
My family bought it used in the late 70's with a massive cab over camper ready to go. He and my mom took my kid brother and I on a road trip from California to Iowa visiting all the stops along the way...Grand canyon, Yellowstone, Bryce Canyon, etc... I think we even did it again later and after that it went camping all over California. He and my mom continued using it well after us boys had grown.
The original camper was ruined one day by a distracted driver so they got a 5th wheel and later changed that to a smaller modern cab over. Eventually the camper was sold and the truck saw light duty use as a secondary vehicle. My dad is 82 now and this year we sold the truck with 76,000 original miles on the clock. The 454 still ran great and the Turbo 400 was rebuilt a bit back. I thought about keeping it but lacked the space and the thing seriously drank the gasoline compared to my little half tons. We sold it to a fellow truck enthusiast who was going to change it just enough to make it his own and enjoy it with his young family. You know.... a bittersweet goodbye to an old friend.

Here's an interior and motor shot for you. It looks so much like yours my heart skipped a beat when I saw yours in Truck of the Month. The Scottsdale is more stripped down I guess with vinyl seat, no door pockets and vinyl floor.

Heads up guys. Sweet Pea is nominated for TOTM. Head over to the voting link to give her a vote if you think she is as deserving as I do. Deadline is July 1.

Re: "Sweet Pea" 1975 Cheyenne 20

Also... There's been an addition to the family recently. Just brought her home yesterday so its time for introductions.

Everyone, meet "Bourbon" She's a 1975 Chevrolet Suburban Scottsdale. 3/4 Ton, Big Block 454, AC (rear ac too) 3rd row seat beauty with 64K miles on the clock. She's finished in what appears to be a repainted coat of her original color of 61 Grecian Bronze. 5 Acres of brown plaid vinyl cover up the interior.

I bought her on Monday in Seattle, WA. Which happens to be the same former hometown as Sweet Pea, but from a different owner. I drove her nearly 1K miles home on another epic road trip and now she's a part of the fam. I'll be posting up a new build thread in the Squarebody Burb's forum, so please be sure to stop on over there and say hi!
