Looks great. The yellow and grey engine is going to look awesome in Yeller! Glad to hear the harness is on it's way back!

Thanks guys! Yup, painting the cover is the plan, just didn't have it in the shop last night. I'm glad it's coming back too, I was having my doubts!

Re: Old Yeller's new heart-5.3/4l60 swap!

Thanks Greg and Scott!

That's a straight up beer fridge, with a bottle of Tito's in the door for emergencies.

Radiator has been upfitted with a steam line and a new upper hose inlet to match the LS hose. Trans got dropped off last night for a re-seal and a "4L60 improver kit". Picking it up today.

Boppa took the swaybars and asst'd stuff home to clean and paint.

Re: Old Yeller's new heart-5.3/4l60 swap!

Ok, a short timeline-

Friday- Ran and got the trans, got the truck drug up from Neighbor Donnie's,got some more stuff sorted and off the firewall.

Saturday- Pulled the hitch and gas tank, looks like my evil fuel pump plan just may work, keep your fingers crossed. Also pulled all fuel lines, and motor mount towers. Then got started on replacing brake lines off the dist block to replace the mess that's been bugging me for 15 years.

Sunday- After six (count 'em!) trips to the parts house, I got the right stuff and actually did a decent job bending the lines, which I usually SUCK at. Got them installed, then got the frame repaired where it looked like it'd been gnawed by angry beavers, then painted till I ran out of paint. Also took the time to readjust the pass door, the fit of which has sucked since the first time we assembled it. Still not perfect, but vastly better now.

Tiiiiime for the pics!

Super hi tech drain method- note double funnel catch system.

Inherited mess-note loop

Much better now- did it all with pre-flared tube. Not bad, considering

Went so well, I replaced the driver's side too

New door fit-the top front corner was juuuuust hitting. Much mo betta now.

Passenger side door gap looks great Chip. You've got so many other cool things you've done to your truck I think if you had a mismatch wheel no one would notice. Your truck looks great, can't wait to see it again at the Truck Nationals this year.

Re: Old Yeller's new heart-5.3/4l60 swap!

Quick update:
Got valve covers back on motor.
Got all fasteners for mounts and engine/trans found cleaned and sorted.
Got motor mounts cleaned and painted (they were nasty)
Got swaybars and brackets cleaned and painted
Got last of crossmember painted.
Got a call from the Hot Rod shop-Compressor is a constant pressure type, all ahead full with the stock compressor.

Gonna be crazy hot tomorrow, so its a phone ordering, hot rod shop visit day.

Of course there are gratuitous frame painted pics!

Re: Old Yeller's new heart-5.3/4l60 swap!

Thanks John! It's just brushed on Rustoleum, but we had it on hand, and it's a lot better than it was. Plus, I'm probably gonna gouge the crap out of it fabbing the motor mounts, easier to touch up.

Good deal on that. I found out in my vintage (2003) There were no variable compressors on the truck engines. Did you find some fittings for the lines?

Re: Old Yeller's new heart-5.3/4l60 swap!

Nice job on the brake lines! Those look nice and tidy, and the frame looks like it's ready for the marriage. Excited to see the engine pics with it reassembled and sitting in there.

Glad to hear the stock AC compressor is a go, on a day like today it reminds you that AC is a must have in these parts...

Re: Old Yeller's new heart-5.3/4l60 swap!

Thanks guys!

Wes, Hoping to have that very pic later in the week. I'm trying to get on your deal more, when's your slot?

Mike, mine's an 06, and I found that if you can see the donor, the AC control tells the tale. Dials and numbers, good to go. 2-side temp and screens, no go seems to be the guide.

Runnin by the Rod shop on the way home, hope they let me take pics, there's some off-the-chain stuff going on there.

Re: Old Yeller's new heart-5.3/4l60 swap!

Rod shop gave me a disappointing price on VA yesterday, checking with Kyle. Last night went kinda sideways, but I got the motor mounts bolted on and 2 projects worth of shop cleanup done and all the painted stuff tucked away. Hoping to do better today.
