Re: 1959 Fleetside REBORN

Conduit is a great idea! Before I folded up like a cheap lawn chair and went to the old body on a new Trailblazer/Envoy frame, I considered the same rearend. Keep the photos coming. Dug

Re: 1959 Fleetside REBORN

Well dad welded the other one, so we will be cutting the rear of the frame off this weekend. The jig did it's job.

Re: 1959 Fleetside REBORN

have you thought of how the wheels will fit with the frame offset like that?
typically the frame would go over the x-member to allow the wheels to fit
my 58 has P235/70R15 tires and i'm thinking 5'' to the frame,
your frame offset looks a little bigger

Re: 1959 Fleetside REBORN

original frame = 34"
frame extensions= 7+7=14
New frame is 48".
Inside of fender lip is 75".
75-48=27-20 for tires, leaving 3.5" gap to manuever in. This is an old pic, where the pinion is not center but x member frame edges were not changed. The reason the frame is not on top is, I can get it 4" lower.

You are thinking to the springs not the frame

Re: 1959 Fleetside REBORN

what did u use for levelers? 1x1 with a bolt in the end? great idea. That is one thing that I would have saved me a bunch of time. Weld them to the frame until you are done.

1.25 square with 7/8 bolt. It was left over from the house construction. no matter how much you move the truck around you always will know your ride height or at lease your starting point.

Re: 1959 Fleetside REBORN

Glad to see someone else using the old timer carpenter square. I have three, from my GGF, grandfather and fathers, use them all the time. Good progress, I wish my Dad could be helping me on mine!
