I love satin paint, but we all really want shine eventually. With the repair skills you've shown you will be fine with the paint. Single stage keeps it simple, and the the show job comes from sanding. Time and sweat right. Good luck and enjoy, I'm along way from paint but want to tackle it myself too.

Thanks man, pictures always make things look better. The typical rust (lower fender, doors) is pushing thru again. The truck is black cherry, I really like it, only shows in the sun, it waxes up pretty good. Straight black will probably be the far future, satin black is probably how I'll cover any repairs I perform. The bright colors get in my head now and then, but the classic black and red runs deep.
All my cash is in the drive train right now, stance will be next...pretty will wait.

In the picture below are a couple of items I had chrome plated. On the left is a bracket I made for my Ford remote solenoid. The solenoid was bolted to the fender well and I did not like that so now the solenoid will be mounted on the bracket and the bracket bolted to the frame but sitting at a 40 degree angle to the fender well and the wires will be few and hidden as much as possible. Later I will show a mock up of what I'm doing, I'm sure some one is thinking , "what the hell is he talkin' 'bout?"

On the right is the original steering column drop. I thought about getting a fancy custom billet column drop but since the stock one worked with the '77 Chevy van column I decided to chrome it since that was cheaper then buying a billet one.

The other pictures are the column drops I had considered buying.

Well I agree with that answer I say the exact same thing to people when I get criticized. Because its mine or because I can is my standard answer. One time a guy told me he did not like the wheels on my 55 Sedan and went on about how I should have kept it original. I ask him if he had one and he said no. So I said well go get one and put the wheels you like on it.lol His jaw dropped.lol

My dad gets told all the time that he should not have red lines on his nomad but he built it after the red line hot wheels and that is what he wanted. I feel the same way if you don't like it get one of your own and do what you'd like.

Personally I think red lines would look kool, I still have my Lime Green Hot Wheel Nomad with it's redline tires, lol. It's your ride screw the others do what you want.

Besides criticism, the other hazard of being apart of the car & truck hobby/enthusiast, is having a passion for cars and trucks and getting treated like a Red headed step child when you go to some of the crusie nites and you may not own a classic /muscle car/ street rod. I like Kabwe's attitude about that, lol. He says, "I should be able to ride up here on a Damn bicycle and be just as passionate about cars as the next guy". A guy that had snubbed Kabwe at a cruise night all of a sudden wanted to talk to Kabwe when he saw his '55 Chevy Belair. Kabwe told him forget you, You didn't want to talk to me when I was asking you questions about your car. The guy felt pretty small coz he knows Kabwe was right. One time this guy drove his pro street truck up to the same place and parked next to my truck and people treated him differently, criticised his truck because of how he built it, then your rat rod crowd wants to talk about the people that use billet and the guy with the fully restored 1976 Dodge Aspen gets laughed at coz most people would not see that as a classic or a muscle car. I remember years ago an editor of Super Chevy wrote about the snobs of the car hobby and how they should watch what they say. He told the story of how this guy and his wife left the show early in their fully restored Nomad because they were discouraged by all of the " you should of done it this way , or you don't do it like that" Well wonder of wonders, when trophy time came their car won but they didn't know it coz a handful of know it alls nit picked them to death. Well like Kabwe said, "I should be able to ride up here on a Damn bicycle and be just as passionate about cars as the next guy".

I thought I was the only one that used that line occassionaly. I get told all the time I am letting my 64 DD waste away and don't respect the car. This is the one I have put almost 90,000 miles on over 14 years and kept from rusting away next to a garage. Also get asked why I drive a ratty old car when I could afford a nice one that would impress all the suits I deal with. Because I can and have the ability to keep them running safely. Most of the guys I deal with on a regular basis get it....

I know I said I was going to post some pictures of the bed coming off but I got side tracked with some other stuff I'm gradually working my way to the back I got caught up with some work under that dash and some electrical work and attacking some rust and old body filler. On the panels and parts I take down to the bare metal I am using (SPI) Southern Polyurethanes Inc. Epoxy primer, it's gr8 stuff to use. Then I top coat it with my PCL high fill polyester primer.

Attacking some rust and old body filler that was slathered on one of the fenders and they used so much filler they pluged a hole without doing any metal work. They just contoured the filler to the shape of the metal lol. The previous owners.

Is that RED LEAD than your top coating the body filler with?? My question dates me I'm sure but back in the day that stuff didn't srink & stretch very well. Is it something new fangled??

That's 3M Bondo Glazing & Spot Putty
It fills in small imperfections, scratches & pinholes in body filler. It doesn't require much and what you see in the picture most of that is sanded away. I have never had any problems with the stuff. If you try to use a lot like it was a regular filler it will shrink and stretch and pull away. RED LEAD is probably another name for it. I don't know. I know the other pictures of the fender have nothing to do with what you asked me , lol. I forgot to put them up Thy are just a continuation of the last pic. of all the bondo being removed and bad metal being cut out from the front fender, gona make a patch and weld up that hole.
