Re: Calling all LS1 converted trucks.
looking at all of the S&P crap on there, yes, they probably have 10k in the drivetrain alone.

Don't give up, the biggest part for me was just getting started. You just have to pick one task at a time and get it done and move on to the next.
Happy wrenching Bill

Re: Calling all LS1 converted trucks.
He's running the Stainless Works f-body headers, I believe. That Blazer is 4wd using plate style mounts IIRC, so fitment will be different than your truck...

Re: Calling all LS1 converted trucks.
So, how does the 8.1L fit into all this... what is it, a LS, LQ, 1, 2... What?
Do you think I should talk my boss outta the 8.1L sitting in our shop? We bought a 8.1L w/ allison out of a 2002 2wd 3/4T suburban. Our plan is to put it into his motorhome (replace the 366 gas motor, Junk) we got the wiring redone by a Jims Performance (very reasonable price) So it's very ready to go, but we haven't started the project yet... Maybe I could talk him into putting it in my '68 with a different trans behind it. So, DOES ANYBODY WANNA BUY A ALLISON??? oooohh, he would kill me, then fire me...

Gringoloco is right about me using the SW headers, the plate mounts and the 4WD being differen't. I also had to cut the collectors off and shorten them about 4" so that the connections weren't behind my crossmember and they are still about 3" lower than I would like. If I had to do it over I think I would've made my own headers or had someone make them for me. It's really the only part of my conversion that I'm unhappy with. If they were 3" shorter (height wise) I wouldn't have to offset my exhaust pipe over the top of my cv joint on the front of my transfer case. Bill

It was priced at $10K (which is what I could have purchased it for--the wife out gunned me that day) and about a year later someone unknowingly offered the guy around $16 and won the truck. The motor and the tranny would cost a person right at $9K if you bought it all new at S&P. The guy that owned it, did polishing work at the S&P shop to pay off the goodies and the motor. I would not call all of the S&P stuff crap, but if you want just a running drivetrain, then they can sell expensive stuff, however, I personally like some of their "BLING". If I am oging to build a runner--it will shine, too. When I drove it, it had minimal brakes but the Kick A$$ part was well oiled and working fine. I calculated what I could do the same type of install for, by using a good used motor and tranny, I feel that I will get mine together for about half of the price for the install. I am looking at using a long tube header set, instead of the shorties that S&P sells. By the way the headers on that truck are the Prototypes for their shorty series that they now sell (the first set built for this style of trucks). The tranny in that truck is a new 4L60E with the adaptor to give it a manual speedo capability, along with the computer input connection. Last edited by piecesparts; 08-31-2007 at 04:42 PM. |

Re: Calling all LS1 converted trucks.
I went with a lokar cable. a stock truck cable (99-05 silverado) would have worked using 71-72 pedal, maybe some shortening and a new cable stop, but ...

Re: Calling all LS1 converted trucks.
I've now owned 4 cars with LS1s in them, just bought a 05 pickup with the 5.3L tonight so I've been "studying" the genIII engines for about 7 years.
I also just made a deal for a 5.3L for my 68 project truck. The goal is 400 RWHP, but it looks like for the 5.3L that is a bit of a stretch, so I'll probably do some bolt ons and a small shot of nitrous (~50HP) to get me there. I'll be running an auto tranny (not sure which one) along with 4.10 gears (just cause I have one with that gearing) The 5.3L I'm getting for the truck doesn't have an intake, wiring, TB, ECM, or MAF. I did however find 2 harnesses and an ECM tonight that I already bought (one harness is for a 4L80E, the other 4L60E). So now I just need a TB, intake, and MAF...oh and tranny. Shouldn't be hard finding this stuff though. Once I get all the pieces, I'll update my build thread. Time to go start reasearching wiring configurartions! |

Re: Calling all LS1 converted trucks.
maybe there should be a fuel injection or genIII subforum since there are so many of us going to this option, but have pretty specific questions about some of this stuff.
