Re: 2 for 1, My son's first Square Build

So I was browsing craigslist earlier and noticed a grill guard and a rear bumper for sale and thought, "now where did I see that?" Then noticed it was for sale in longview, and then looked at your first pics. Bingo.

You don't happen to have a good tilt column do you? Im in need of one and ofcourse I sold all mine. Lol

No, we do not have a tilt column. I need to take down the craiglist ads...

Re: 2 for 1, My son's first Square Build

Korbin, I have followed every step of your progress with the truck and I think it's time to let you know that I'm very proud of you. We had stipulations when you got the truck and as far as I can see you hasve followed through on them. You're moving along a lot faster than I expected. I can see from the pictures that you are doing as much of the work yourself as anyone could expect and are learning fast. Your'e thinking ahead and coming up with some good ideas and researching them and asking for input to see if they sound feasible and practical. I like that. Keep up the good work and make us all proud of you.

It was super cool of you to offer Korbin the great '2 for 1' deal to start his learning curve & it's even better that you're keeping track of his progress. He's going to know 'his' truck inside/out when it's all said & done!!

Re: 2 for 1, My son's first Square Build

Thank you so much Mr. Kilgore and SOTI. I truly enjoy it, the only things left until the frame and cab are sent off for a good sandblasting is a lot of grinding. I got corvette 13 in slotted and drilled rotors and calipers for Christmas 5x4 lugs and 2.5 in drop spindles. I was probably the only kid in east Texas opening up stuff like that on christmas, and I'm proud of it. We are tryin to work a deal on a 2000 gmc Sierra with a 5.3 that has has everything, but it has a bent frame and front member. My dad has an idea about using the rack and pinion set up off of that truck, but idk, it is 4wd tho so we will have to replace the taleshaft thingy but no biggy, if all else fails we have a turbo 400 layin around that needs to be rebuilt. It also has a 40/20/40 seat that i like and may use .The deal is still 50/50 so don't get your hopes up haha. I think I'm going to use a 70s Camaro 10 bolt with posi we found in a pull a part, it's a little narrower so I can use a little deeper dish wheel, looks a little better. It also is 5x4 so I want have to get anything redrilled. That's about it for now. I'll keep u updated

Re: 2 for 1, My son's first Square Build

A little clarification on Korbin's post...

The Front brakes are from way2lo, a forum vendor here. They are 13" Corvette C5 brakes with a 5 on 4.75" bolt pattern. The Camaro rear would have the same 5 on 4.75" lug pattern.

He and I did get a little grinding done before the rain started on Sunday night. Maybe we can get more done this weekend.

Re: 2 for 1, My son's first Square Build

check this out. there is my engine, tranny, seat, and whatever else we can take off of it. bought it off of a friend who wrecked it and his dad was gonna send it to salvage, and i talked to him then introduced my dad to him and got it! its a 5.3l with a 4l60 but its 4wd so the tailshaft is different,

Re: 2 for 1, My son's first Square Build

The seat is a 40/20/40 with built in belts, it has a flip up center console just like I want, when it comes time to put it in I want it done charcoal gray with red stitching. It has 1 flowmaster 50 series muffler but it has a hole in it. I'm already getting big ideas for the engine, gm performance cam, cold air k&n intake, supercharged or a better intake manifold. My minimum is 400hp, I think that is very streetAble and is not over the top. I think I can get it with a cam and cold air intake alone, but there are probably other things I can do to get it there cheaply and easily. I want to do flowmaster 40 series. I don't have to run a catalytic converter do I? I am going to need/use Herman shorty headers, Camaro oil pan, and a 2wd tailshaft, a driveshaft, and motor mounts and a wiring harness to do the install correct? Am I missing something big? There is a comPuter tuning and engine tuning guy that is literally in walking distance of my house, and I'm 99% sure they have a dyno. I will probably take it there to be tuned. The frame is nearly ready to be sent off for a good sandblasting along with the cab. Getting this parts truck was a big boost for me in seeing the light at the end of the tunnel you know? I'm really excited.

Re: 2 for 1, My son's first Square Build

Sweat deal on the z71 parts truck. Hell it dont look wrecked that bad. Just so you know, you will have to disassemble the transmission and change the output shaft along with bolting a 2wd extension housing on it. Its not a simple as bolting a tail housing on it as alot of people will try an tell you. lol But still not hard. TOO bad your not closer, I could use some body parts off that z71.

Re: 2 for 1, My son's first Square Build

From what I understood from the guy that did my whole families exhaust on our cars (my truck, chevelle, and trans am) Texas only requires cats on vehicles 1984 and newer.

It makes a difference, after getting true duals and no cats on my truck it responds a lot better and sounds better.

The damage from the wreck is on the passenger side. It may not be as bad as the PO thought...It may just be a crossmember and the control arm that would need some tweeking....

I think that we will just take what we can use and part out/scrap the rest...

Karl, don't forget about Street and Performance @hotrodlane.com. They have a lot of parts and electronics for older conversions and rebuilds.

And think about the AC out of the Z71. It's 134a and should adapt easily to the 82 cab.
