Re: 1965/73 Cheap Build Up
I promise I will get more work done than this. I sand blasted & painted the used headlight buckets & brackets I got from this forum. I also polished the stainless steel headlight rings. They look better than new now.

I'm glad I'm so far off the list because the crap I had to go though in the Navy is probably nothing compaired to what you guys can dream up.
Oh yeah nice looking lights. Man those things look brand new. |

Re: 1965/73 Cheap Build Up
Thanks Jason. Not really. I have a sand blast cabinet. It saves me a lot of time. The rest was just primer & paint. If I had to clean the surface rust, and dirt off by hand it would have taken forever.

Re: 1965/73 Cheap Build Up
You still have all the old 3/4 ton stuff from the truck? I know you still have the wheels, but what about all the suspension, and the front crossmemebr spindles and rear axle and springs? Also you got any idea what the rear axle ratio is in the 3/4 ton rear axle?

Re: 1965/73 Cheap Build Up
I have 2 complete 8 lug differentials. One is a 4:10 and the other is 3:73. I also have the complete 3/4 ton front end assembly. Everything has brakes on them. The diff from the 1965 3/4 ton has the back half of the frame with it. Control arms, springs, cables, everything from the center of the frame to the back. Except the drive shaft. They are all For Sale. Are you interested?

Re: 1965/73 Cheap Build Up
Yes, actually I am, if the price is right of course. I am trying to do a 3/4 ton conversion on a somewhat limited budget. (putting my daughter through college in Monterey, Ca.) Is the 65 rear end a 4.10?

Re: 1965/73 Cheap Build Up
Yes it is a 4:10. How much are you willing to pay? I have a price in mind, but don't know what your budget is. PM me if you want, and we can exchange phone numbers.

Thanks, now I'm trying to make it all work with the Chevy front grill support. I thought they were the same. But it looks like it will work with some effort.

Re: 1965/73 Cheap Build Up
I sand blasted the power steering box, and painted it yesterday. I painted it with cast iron engine paint.

Re: 1965/73 Cheap Build Up
Next I drilled the frame to install the power steering conversion brackets. Of course I had to modify the install instructions, and they didn't give me the correct size bolts. Plus the kit was missing 2 bolts. On the lower bolt hole they want you to notch the frame so the bolt head would have clearance. Instead I screwed a grade 8 stud in the hole, and welded the inside of the bracket. It fit perfect without notching the frame.
