Re: 67 C-10 project.

well since last night i've been pretty busy! i was able to collect a few more goodies from craigslist as you'll see. the weather here today was unbelivably warm! i got off work at noon and the weather was too much! I had to start work on the truck. but what to do and how far to go...??? my first score from CL last night was a set of 5 ralley wheels froma 76 chevy truck...or maybe 79 he gave me different dates. but none the less i was able to trade him an old toolbox i had in my basement for them. they need new tires, but i'm taking them tomorrow to get the old ones dimounted so that i can clean the rims up. and i'm going to price out some new ones...i'm thinking 235 65 r 15....think that will be a good size with a 2.5 / 4 drop? then i found a really nice clean 67 license plate for $20. And then i started to take the inline 6 out of the truck so i can start putting all these parts in it! So far so good. but i'm trying to pull just the engine even though i was told it would be much easier to pull the motor and tranny at the same time...is that true? my truck has a 4 speed and i didn't want to mess with the clutch, etc. but i don't know. there is a bolt i'm having trouble getting off. it's super tight! anyways....pics for everybody...

Re: 67 C-10 project.

then starting to take the motor out...so far i have the radiator off, the heater and radiator hoses. the starter and battery disconnected. the fuel pump disconnected, the choke and throttle cables disconnected. the oil pressure line disconnected, and ground wires disconnected...one motor mount bolt on each motor mount out...and about 5 of the tranny bolts. what i don't know and haven't figured out yet is how and where to disconnec the clutch shaft mechanism...i still need to get the hood off as well. Oh..and the license plate, and a face to put with a name!

Re: 67 C-10 project.

well, man was i busy today! i'm pretty proud of myself! And my son Zack was a great help to me as well! At 10 this morning I took all of my wheels down to a shop in Rose Hill and got all the tires dismounted. now i can get the rims cleaned up and painted. Then i himmed and hawed and tryed to figure out what to do about the rest of my parts. i decided to go ahead and pull the motor or at least try and get it pulled. i started on it yesterday. So anyways too make a long story short...not only did i get the motor pulled but i got the front crossmember pulled as well! sweet! Pictures first then i have a few questions...

Re: 67 C-10 project.

you aint a kidding Rick! my back is killing me! i have a couple questions posted in the engine and suspension forums. hopefully i'll be good to go...i'm excited! but at the same time stressed out that my truck is no longer driveable! i hope it is back on the road within a week or two at the most. the plan for tomorrow is to get the new crossmember installed and start figuring how to get the brakes all hooked up again. I still need to get a power brake booster. And i'm wondering if the new power steering box is going to fit my frame...Did you add power steering to your truck? any issues with the gear box hitting the frame?

i got a 72 frame abnd suspension so it fits perfectly! just grind down the steeriong box and the frame a little and then use washers in between to help...

Re: 67 C-10 project.

today i took two of my rims down and got them sandblasted. then i got em home and blew them off and wiped them down with laquer thinner. now they are coated with enamel primer. maybe tomorrow i'll get the color on them. is $60 a good deal for sandblasting two rims? i thought it was kind of high...but they looked good.

Re: 67 C-10 project.

$60 sounds high.
Alot of places have a minimun charge.
You might have gotten all 4 done for the same money.

Re: 67 C-10 project.

yeah maybe...i called them and originally he told me that they just charge by time. $120 an hour. but he said that he could most likely do all five wheels in less than an hour. but i only can use two right now so i figured i could get them done for around $40 or maybe a little less...but that didn't work out. maybe i'll try a different place next time.

Re: 67 C-10 project.

kinds slow rick...tomorrow it's supposed to warm up to 43 so maybe some of the snow will melt. i'm really hoping to be able to get the cross member bolted in this weekend. if i can get it rollable, then i can get it put in the shop and work on it a little more hopefully.

Re: 67 C-10 project.

well today went pretty good. i got the 73-87 crossmember all dismantled. i read through about 20 of the threads on doing the swap and so far i think i'm doing okay. the guy that i got my cross member from left me part of the frame and everything, so i was able to get all of the hardware off of it. the proportion valve is what i'll be using? should i mount it back on my frame the same place it came off of the old one? i saved all of the brake lines as well but i'm not sure if i can use them or not yet. i read something about having to plug a couple lines on the prop valve. anyways, i got it bolted up to my frame with a couple bolts, put some wheels on it from my gmc van, and it was rollable again! i have it pushed into my shop now! not very much room in there...i can see it needing to be turned sideways in the garage so there is more room to work on it. so tomorrow i hope to get all of the rest of the bolts in, and get the steering box situated and see what i'm going to do. i'll have some more pics tomorrow...

Re: 67 C-10 project.

the windshield knob is still in there Rick, but i'll keep at it. yeah, i looked online and i think i found some tires that i want. BF Goodrich Radial T/A 245/60/r15s...i can get them from tire rack for $98 each and $31 shipping. But i'll see if anyone local first can match or beat that price...i need to get my drop spindles on order from ece sometime as well...just not enough dollars to do it all so it's baby steps!

Re: 67 C-10 project.

You can actually use all the 73-87 lines,... in the same lay-out as they were originally installed on the 73-87 frame.
You need to determine which "width" rotors you have before you order drop spindles.
ECE is a great source for 67-72 parts,... but you might be able to get a better deal on 73-87 spindles from Summit Racing.
I would also look at www.PerformanceOnLine.com
They sell them for $228.
Plus they are a Supporter of this site.
