Re: 63 C10 SWB Dropmember Build

Thanks guys!

We will be running the Porterbuilt hood hinges, but really wanted to have a gas assisted setup. I sent the hinges over to Ben @ Alexander Speed (Bhelton) to have him work out the details and make the brackets for me. He made it all work and think they came out pretty nice. We will now have 60-66 gas assisted hood hinges!

I will be picking them up when in Charlotte next week, and can't wait to get them installed.

I am not sure... I guess we could make a set for you, if interested.
Just give me a call and we can work out the details.

What gas strut did you use to hold up the heavy 60-66 hood?

Re: 63 C10 SWB Dropmember Build

Can I get a set of brackets for the hood hinges? I already have the porterbuilt hood hinges just need the brackets for it for the shock assist. Is that possiable? Thanks. Trucks looking great. Think when mine gets done next spring I'll take it out west to do some shows and see how life out there is.

We used a 90 pound gas strut (x4), so should be more than enough to hold the hood up.

That would be great to cruise out this way, and let me know if you do. I can get a gas strut made up for you. PM Sent.

I purchased one of the original sets of 67-72 gas strut assisted hood hinges from Porterbuilt.
They had (4) 100lb struts on them.
It wouldn't hold the hood up.

Nate sent out (4) new 110lb struts to member hot trux, (who now owns Ginger),... and the hood now stays open.

Different struts are available if the 90lb one don't work

haha.... I was there, but didn't bring the truck to the show.

At the time, PB didn't have the hinge upgrade, but yes, it is now available.

Re: 63 C10 SWB Dropmember Build

Been very busy with work all weekend, but managed to sneak away for a little bit, to get some work done on the truck. I recently sold my square body project, so this truck will now be a keeper, for sure. I removed the 14" Pro Performance kit, and installed the Baer brakes I was saving for my square body project.

Next weekend free to work on it, my Dad and I will hopefully be dropping in the engine.

The brakes look super-sweet Travis!
How deep do I need to dig to get some of those? LOL!
I learned that you forwarded a pic of my truck to Schott Wheels, which they posted on their Facebook page! I was going to wait until the truck was finished, but still a pleasant surprise!...Nice!
Your truck is shaping-up nicely!

Re: 63 C10 SWB Dropmember Build

Thanks! I am really looking forward to finishing this one, and finally having something to take to the shows and enjoy.

Your truck is coming out so nice and looks great with those wheels ...I had to share. They are new to Instagram, so I thought I would send them some C10's to show! I'll have to send them some finished pictures when you are done, if you don't mind as well.

lol.... I hated to see it go, and will always have a soft spot for them. Maybe I can build one later down the road.

Re: 63 C10 SWB Dropmember Build

The new cam and convertor came in from Texas Speed today. Went with the 224R cam and 3,000 stall convertor. Hopefully will be getting this installed next weekend, along with the f-body pan, and dropping it in the truck.

Re: 63 C10 SWB Dropmember Build

Got some time to work on the truck this weekend again, and feel good about the progress made. I was able to get the engine torn down, cleaned up, and new cam installed. I am new to the LS engines, and was good to learn about them by taking them apart. As expected, these engine are quit different than the traditional SBC.

From there, we also got the brake lines ran along the frame, along with the fuel lines. I decided to run SS lines to the master cylinder form the frame. To do this, we did bulkhead fittings in the top of the frame, and will run up to the master from there. I plan on using the new Baer Remaster master cylinder.
