Re: Slowly I build a truck

New Fuel Tank grommet from Wes at Classic Heartbeat.

I put it in a pot of boiling water and wiped the area down with dawn dishwashing soap and slid it on. I pushed it down too far and tried using wooden popcycle sticks to get it back over the lip. They break too easy. I wound up using a screw driver wrapped in electric tape. I had a few panicky moments thinking I wasn't going to get it, but it finally popped into place after about 15 minutes. I wound up using a little bit of white lithium grease on the grommet on the inside of the cab to get that last little bit over the lip.

Re: Slowly I build a truck

Mounted the Painless Wiring Maxi-fuse to the charcoal canister. I'm wondering if I could have hidden it inside the old voltage regulator housing, but at this point the wires are already on this side of the truck.

Re: Slowly I build a truck

Thanks! I alternate between the truck and remodeling a house, so I've been working on the house lately. The carb was messed up after sitting in the paint shop so long and it backfired and then would not run without flooding out. I had a friend work on the carburetor and he put something in there so it would not mess up if it backfired again. Sorry I don't know the technical terms for these things. Then I replaced the fuel fouled spark plugs and it's running good again. I'll try to post a video later. Next up is windshield, windows and seat cover, then I think it will be pretty close to ready to go. I still want to try to adjust the spacing on the front grill, but I had to walk away from that for a while.

This is a great build! Like others have mentioned, your attention to detail is envious. Thanks for sharing your progress with us.

BTW- I like the cowl hood.

Thanks guys. Here's a link to the latest video. I think the windshield is next, but that may be a few months.

Re: Slowly I build a truck

I keep some in the attic, toss some, and give some away. I might try to sell some of the better leftovers after all is said and done.

Re: Slowly I build a truck

I'll look and see if I still have it. As I recall it was very yellow and cracked so I'm not sure if I kept it or not.

Re: Slowly I build a truck

Picking back up after an extended break.
It's time for door glass. Test fitting the vent window. Tape, tape, tape.
Not sure why these pictures are uploading sideways. Does anyone know how to fix that before I post more?

Re: Slowly I build a truck

Installing the window glass run and door access hole plug. I ran the window glass run up to the vent window, then removed the vent window before installing the glass. That way I knew exactly how far to put the glass run, plus I had practice with the vent window before it got too crowded.

It looks like for pictures uploaded from my phone, I have to edit them first, rotate them and save them, then rotate them again and save them before uploading. Pain in the butt. Looks like I'll be using the camera instead of the cell phone for pictures from now on.

Installing the window regulators. A little bit of grease never hurt anybody.

Re: Slowly I build a truck

Trying to remember where all the parts go. For it a 1972 it helps to test fit the the screw and sleeve that fits under the vent window to hold the door shell together before installing the window. That was a hard lesson to learn. I got the clip in place on the passenger side after the fact, but it cost me a few scrapes on the back of my hand from the mirror screws.
