Hey John,
You said it. Ask and you shall receive. Here are some shots of the LWB Fleetside bed with metal floor I scooped for $200!
BTW, I have thrown in a pic of the factory gas tanks which were on it. John, they are waiting for you man! Just come by to pick them up.....

Re: PROJECT "Father/Son" C-20 Rolling Chassis Build

My $200 fleetside LWB bed has now been media blasted by the best kept secret low cost shop in SJ. Also tail gate and wheel housings. I just love Nor Cal metal. Now onto the body shop

Re: PROJECT "Father/Son" C-20 Rolling Chassis Build

Well.....I took about a 5 minute brake on the Vette to start the tailgate re-skin and handle relocation......Just to let Rich know I didn't recycle his gate or anything !

Using the SirMichaels kit:-

I couldn't get the original philips head bolts to budge...even with an impact screwdriver...so I had to weld nuts to them:

Once I remove the outer skin...it will drop in just perfect:

Re: PROJECT "Father/Son" C-20 Rolling Chassis Build

Awesome John!
You are doing great!
I think the best plan is to get that straight. Then I definetly want that blasted and hit with weld thru primer before the skin is attached. I can primer it with my TP tools HVLP system. So work it to make sure sure it it straight and the new skin aligns good. Then give me a call and I'll pick it up to drop off at the media place. Or if you want you can drop it off at Accu Burr on Berger Drive, which is off of Gish. Talk to Steve. Tell him its' for me.
Thanks again. I am sure it will look great when finished. Call me with any questions.

Re: PROJECT "Father/Son" C-20 Rolling Chassis Build

Wow, I actually came back to this gate today.......This past month has been hectic...from getting hammered at the 'Lost Isle"...to blown power valves and MSD's in jet-boats....organizing pops wherehouse...to adding another year to my age this past Tuesday, I have been really busy..

I know, enough of that...here is some progress !!
-
-
Rich had the inner skin blasted and primed before I skinned the outside. I straightened the inner, lower radius part of the gate before the reassembly. This minimizes the need for excess mud. These are just a few dings from a truck being used as, well, a truck....
-

-

-

-

-

-
Next, I prepped the inside of the new skin by lightly sanding the surface rust that has formed, then priming the edges with the 'weld-thru' primer, then priming the middle with black primer, then with some semi-gloss for further corrosion pertection:
-

-

-
If you look closely and concentrate, you might be able to see the can of 'weld-thru' primer....

The frame is powdercoating is called silver vein. It cost a bit more because a clear coat is required. I dig the industrial look it has, that's why I went with it. That and it is differnt than your everyday black.

Re: PROJECT "Father/Son" C-20 Rolling Chassis Build

Wow I finally got a chance to view this complete build thread.

John - AWSOME workmanship and detailed info & pics There is no doubt that this C20 is gonna be a Bad Mo Fo when completed. Looking at this C20 gives me hope on my rig. I wanna lower it via bags and notch but not lay frame as well. Will use the the same technique when swapping my Eaton to late model 14 ff rearend swap later this year. Thanks for your work of sharing this build info!!

Rich - I see you converted to 8-lug disc prior to Johns work. Did you buy a "kit" or use stock later model spindles or aftermarket drop? I have disc on my Eaton rear end now and will trfr this to the recently aquired 14 bolt later. Before I do, I need to convert the front end brakes asap. I'd appreciate any info you could share.

Awsome build thread this is!!

Thanks!!

Thanks for the nice words Norm...Rich used a dropped spindles kit with disc conversion....so, yeah an aftermarket set-up.

I know the rear used front 3/4 rotors and calipers...with the mount from Balistic.

All my work is like that...well thought out, clean, and perfectionist style....
