Re: My 65 step build and first chevy

Started on the Vintage Air system here is progress so far. The brackets I got convert the serpentine system I used out of a 1993 1500 to the Sanden pump. A few problems the valve cover needed a little grinding. I will clean up once I finish the install. The belt is to short now. A little disappointed in Vintage Air as they do not know what belt to change too said the stock belt should work. You can tell just by the way the pump has to sit the belt will need to be longer. I hope it is not to hard to get right length.

Here is the condenser and dyer. This part was pretty straight forward. A little tight trying to get the lines tight. I went ahead and got the trinary switch as well since I am running electric fans.

Re: My 65 step build and first chevy

Here is the heater and AC unit. A little disappointed in the mounting brackets they were off so had to open grooves up a little to get the rear bracket to fit. Not to bad but should not have to deal with stuff like that. Hope to have whole system completed by end of week and continue with the electrical.

Re: My 65 step build and first chevy

Well that's it for now slow but sure. If anyone has installed the Sanden pump and replaced the belt that fits on a similar system please let me know the part number?

Re: My 65 step build and first chevy

Time for another update on progress slow but sure. If anyone is using the serpentine system I am off a 90's Chevy 1500 the correct belt size for the Vintage Air Sanden conversion is Napa 060988. Here is a few more pics got a local AC shop to crimp the lines for me.

Re: My 65 step build and first chevy

Got my radiator hoses sorted out as well. Chevyrestoguy recommended top hose from 1972 Monte Carlo cut down. The hose worked out perfect I used Napa 7454 for the top and Napa 7694 for the bottom which also needed just a little trimming..

Re: My 65 step build and first chevy

Working on getting the electrical on motor and the power steering lines. Have a pressure line for a 85 Cutless on order that I think may work it has the metric fittings for the pump and the Saginaw gearbox. I have tried several lines but no luck so far. May have to make one. Then the transmission lines and cooler I got. Trying to get to point I can start the engine.

Re: My 65 step build and first chevy

Here ae a few more pics of some of the stuff I finished before starting first is the trans fluid cooler I put in addition to the radiator cooler. It mounted nice on the frame and is tucked away from getting hit by anything. I have the fluid going into the radiator cooler then into the aluminum fluid cooler and then back to trans.

Here is a pic of where I mounted the fuel regulator. It is up above frame and seems to work well mounted there.

Re: My 65 step build and first chevy

Here is a few pics of the power steering lines. I was able to use the line for a 85 oldsmobile cutless. Had to reshape one end going into the gear box but worked out pretty well

You can see the mod for the volt meter as well worked out real nice. AAW does not even allow for amp gauge.

Re: My 65 step build and first chevy

So need help here if anyone has a picture or can look at their step side. The picture here is of my bed and how the cross sills were put in. The one by the rear cross sill appears to be missing the one inch mounting bracket like the 2 up front. I ordered one and when I got it the bracket is flat and not raised like up front. Anyone know how the one in front of rear should look?

Re: My 65 step build and first chevy

Looking Awesome! I recently got me a 64 Stepside and am in the process of doin pretty much everything you have done, but I z'd my frame and installed bags. I've had mine since October of last year. I was hoping to have her on the road by June ... probably not. By the way we are neighbors, I'm in Menifee.
