Re: Intro from an old Assembly Plant guy

Thanks, Dennis.

Yes - cab and front clip remained on the chassis. The fuel tank (and shield) caught the most overspray (pretty much full blast), in the vicinity of the cab corner. Across the back of the cab and the front bumper brackets caught just a little bit; very little inside the wheel houses. I wasn't too concerned because I knew I was going to hit them with chassis black when done, anyway.

I recommend you do the interior and door jambs first (before exterior paint), because it is easier to mask off. I didn't get it done in time but - on the other hand - I now know what (exterior) color I need to match on the interior and jambs. I don't foresee any problem if you were to do the firewall and floorboards before exterior paint.

That does not sound fun.

Right on Keith, you're doing an awesome job. I know it's just going to be a nice driver but im still impressed with it.

Re: Intro from an old Assembly Plant guy

Nice truck. I'm always happy to see another box being put back together.
I have a question and I may be in the wrong spot, but is there anyway to figure out the old MSRP or get another sticker for the glove box????

Re: Intro from an old Assembly Plant guy

there is also a gun that welds a rivit type head to the sheet metal then attach a slide hammer for the pull. leave all the rivits on until the end and grind them off w/ no holes. just a heads up...

I think that's how the body shop fixed my doors (judging by the little weld spots that you can see from inside the door).

I've got one that was made in your plant in 75. It's a rusty clunker, still runs good though, thanks

Yes, in fact: I stopped by the paint shop last night and the box is done. I will grab it on the way home tonight, so look for a flurry of activity over the next few days!

Re: Intro from an old Assembly Plant guy

She looks beautifull and its great to use the truck as the hauler for her own parts especially with that nice wooden stand you made to get the bed moved around!
I have one with wheels on it made from square tubing. That is so helpfull and mine is a longbox!
The use of the hoist is another good idea as i see it because my buddy and me had a hard time to put the box back on!
Very nice work!

Dennis - if you were closer you could have mine...

LOL-

I made it because I didn't want the box sitting down on the ground on the boxsides; the area under the pencil braces was rusted out and I was afraid it would bend the flange on the bottom.

I made that one exclusively out of scrap wood that was laying around; the uprights are 4x4 cut two feet long, then the box was lag bolted to the ends through the box bolt holes. I added the horizontal braces to give it some stability.

At that point I started to winch it up on the trailer and that's when I realized the legs were too narrow to fit on the skids (it's an open center trailer)... so I quickly added those crosscar 2x4's at the bottom.

It worked out well; I could slide it/wheel it around at will, it put the box at a nice height for working on it and the guys in the paint shop seemed to appreciate it.

Missed your question earlier:

Nope - what you see is what you get. I need to put the chrome trim back on, I was going to freshen up the original Fuel Injection badge (more on that later) and I have ordered the CHEVROLET decal set. I figured I could just install it over the smooth portion (where the embossed letters were originally) and nobody but you and I would notice...

Re: Intro from an old Assembly Plant guy

It was an option on some trucks insted of having an under mount you could get it in the bed
