Re: Progress on my woman's '65 Short/Fleet.

Put in a few more hours on the truck yesterday. I cleaned, painted and installed the clutch fan, took care of the wiring that I could under the hood(missing the park light harness)... Meanwhile, Fred was at work patching the fenders (got one done and the other about 80% done) while Lisa sanded his car. Brother and Sister trading work... I was slacking on the picture taking yesterday, but here's a few...

Just noticed this question...

Fred drives all kinds of cars and trucks... He has a helluva fleet... The last couple of weeks, he was working on his own project for the Rumblers Show...

A '54 210, 2-door. He re-did the rear suspension, took out the leaf springs and put in coils with some home-made trailing arms and an s10 blazer rearend. He yanked out the 235 and 3 speed and dropped in a 307 with throttle body injection and 200r4 tranny. He painted the roof with Rustoleum gloss white, and he tried to get it all in primer for the show, but didn't quite finish. He worked until the last day and drove that car to the show and back. Round trip: 120 miles...

Fred is the man!!!

Re: Progress on my woman's '65 Short/Fleet.

Thanks for all the comments guys! That's some pretty funny stuff...

Last week was a pretty stressful, busy week... We tried our a$$es off to get the truck ready for the Rumblers show that was in Albuquerque on 5/23. I was taking off early from work and putting in late nights at the shop...

On last Thursday, I finished bolted up fender to get the front end complete...

Re: Progress on my woman's '65 Short/Fleet.

Later on that evening my woman and I had to go to a class at church to baptize her neice. When we got back to the shop, the guys had made room for us inside the shop. They let us use a lift to finish up the things on the bottom (exhaust, tranny lines, linkage, etc.)...

That calls for a beer...

Re: Progress on my woman's '65 Short/Fleet.

I'm not sure exactly what was done the rest of that evening...it's all a ball of mush in my mind already! I do remember doing some work under there though.

Then, before we left for the night, Fred and I decide to try to pound a dent on the side of the bed. We did the best we could with the tools we had available at the time...a hammer and a block of wood...

It was worth a shot...it ended up better then what it was...

Re: Progress on my woman's '65 Short/Fleet.

Also, here's a pic of Fred's fender patches...

For those of you's wondering about the rust on the doors... the P.O. had put house insulation in the doors as a sound deadener...either that or he was cold... Anyhow, that was the results....we should all learn from his mistakes...

Re: Progress on my woman's '65 Short/Fleet.

I went back to the shop early on Friday (my day off) and got a lot done in the time I had. I failed to take pictures that day. I had a lot on my mind, so the camera stayed in the truck all day. Anyhow, that day, Lisa's brother, Mario, ran the tranny cooler line and plumbed in the tranny cooler. He also helped me with the misc. trans parts... the detent cable, vacuum line, and the shift linkage. Later on, I got the pipes prepared for welding.

We also put the pretty new chrome on the front end... (pics of that would've been nice!)

I worked on it until about 4 o'clock until I had to go... the band had a gig that night at one of the local casinos. I had to get ready for that.

Re: Progress on my woman's '65 Short/Fleet.

Then came Saturday...the deadline... the day of the Rumblers... we needed to do about 2-3 hours more work to get in ready (clean out the gas tank and fuel lines)... Unfortunately, some things came up and we weren't able to put in those hours. We didn't make our deadline. We ended up going in the '62. We still had a blast, but all night long I was a little bummed out about not finishing the '65 in time.

Re: Progress on my woman's '65 Short/Fleet.

Yesterday evening, after work, I headed straight to the shop.

On Tuesday night, I had to go to the recording studio...the band is working on a CD and we were working on some vocals... while I was doing that, Lisa and Stephen went to the shop and removed the gas tank...

When I arrived to the shop on Wednesday evening, Lisa's brother Carlos had the tank ready and the fuel lines blown out. We just had to bolt it back in.

So we put some gas in it...Carlos tuned the carb and adjusted the timing... And we were able to drive it!!! Happy Days were here again!!! We drove it home last night!! She's home where she belongs!!

This morning, before leaving to work, I snapped a few shots...

Here's how she looks now...
