Re: Dumptruck Dolly
Merry Christmas!
Hope you all are having a memorable time today! During a break in the action, I snuck out to give some attention to Dolly. I am prepping to tack in the drivers side and am cutting out the passenger side frame for the new insert. You know what?! It’s going to happen this week!...rolling the front axle in for a test fit is imminent! |

Re: Dumptruck Dolly
After more festivities, I got out to the garage again...
I tacked in the donor 3/4 ton frame pieces on both sides and bolted up the rear shackle support for the purpose of testing the alignment. When it’s all said and done, I’ll gusset the bottom flange as well as make a lower support brace that’ll go to the crossmember. |

Re: Dumptruck Dolly
I located my hardware for the leaf springs and bolted them on. I left it a smidgeon loose, so I can locate both ends of the spring easier into the hangers. I’ll tighten it down for the roll test and alignment.

Re: Dumptruck Dolly
Looks like I have the shackles going in the right direction, but I have to lengthen them for more clearance. I am thinking about 1 inch. These shackles are from LMC. If I put the shackle mount to the bottom of the frame, I would be done. Well, someone reading this won’t make the same choice “regarding its vertical position” when using a donor frame component, hopefully. I am glad I used the donor frame and shackle mount.

A better question would be...On a K20 small block V8 4x4, how much distance “forward” is the front crossmember hole (Center) from the bump stop bolt (Center)? Two plumb vertical lines must be drawn from these two “centers”, and then measure the distance between the two, and then I should be good to go. |

Re: Dumptruck Dolly
From another section on this fantastic site, I received a response from landarts...he says 1/2 inch difference. He measured off of his K20...Thank you so much! I knew it was close but I wasn’t sure.

Re: Dumptruck Dolly
Been a long time from my last post...I have not been idle per say. I’ve been working on this CRX for the upcoming summer. New suspension components all around.

Re: Dumptruck Dolly
Did get a power steering box put on Dolly...sorry for the 2 sideways pics
First, trimmed the radiator support Second, put heat and hammer to the frame for more clearance Third, bolted it up...now Dolly will have power steering (donated by my 1971 K20) |

Re: Dumptruck Dolly
Great Progress.
I just noticed / You really like those Extended T wing & Y wing hold downs. I will share a trick I learned. Once you get the Engine (Broke in) / (Warm-Up) and (adjusted). It is a good idea to put a Touch of silicone on the inside of those T-Wings. So the next time you raise the hood they will be there. .
