Re: Project Evil Tow Rig - '87 CC SRW Conversion

Got all the Dynamat Extreme done on all four doors this week!

I also got all the parts here do I threw the back door panels back on as well!

I still have to build the lower panels but I haven't quite figured out exactly what I want to do with them. The fronts are going to house the component speaker pods but the rears will likely stay plain, just finished in the dark leather.

Those door panels are sick! Do want. Are the panels stock or stock dyed, covered, etc...(except the inserts of course)

The panels are the stock ones. The rears have some scratches in them but I buffed them down and completely re-dyed them with SEM Color Coat. Same with the arm rests, which were literally in perfect shape!

I will be on the lookout for some nice rear panels at the junk yards, but these are good enough for now!

What about some semi-matching components for the rears vs staying plain? Too much trouble or??

Re: Project Evil Tow Rig - '87 CC SRW Conversion

I'm already using Polk Mobile Monitor speakers all the way around. I do not want to chop up the door metal to flush mount the rear coax speakers. Plus there isn't enough room with the cab's seat hump to pull the speaker out and make a pod like I am doing with the front. Even if I did that, the speak could only fire right into the seat which will kill all imaging and sound like crap. So I really don't have much of a choice...

Re: Project Evil Tow Rig - '87 CC SRW Conversion

I am very interested to see how well the SEM holds up. I have nice grey panels in my CCSB now but need to make all the interior trim pieces match. Have also been thinking of going tan because I think it gives a warmer more "luxurious" look to the interior.

I used their Plastic Adhesion Promotor after a good scrub down and after everything cured, I tried to scratch various hidden spots on the backside of different panels and the stuff seems to hold up well. We will see as time goes on though! If I were to do it again, I would custom mix catalyzed paint and low luster clear with flex additives because nothing beats the armor of catalyzed paint.

I don't usually like tan. With the dark brown it looks GREAT. Nicely done.

I'm the same way! But with the other color choices these trucks had, black and possibly gray were the only colors I could possibly live with and they are both just too plain jane to make custom and unique.

Re: Project Evil Tow Rig - '87 CC SRW Conversion

The only things to report are that the front door panels are done (except the driver side brushed insert...I need to find on NOS still)

I have the rear axle and front lift springs and I am waiting on the last of the suspension parts do I can get the SRW swap and lift all done. We also start the 4L80E swap next week as well.

------------

But beside that, I've been blasting the mountains since my new All Mountain bike showed up...

Re: Project Evil Tow Rig - '87 CC SRW Conversion

The rear seat lets just got back from Ssnake-Oyl Products and I am pretty god damned happy with their work! The details in the release button are a bit smudged now, but they explain that in the re-chroming, this happens. The new webbing is perfect and factory type stitching is spot on! The buttons, latches and all the other chrome turned out great! The brushed finished stuff came out great as well! Now to send off the front belts!

I'll get photos when I can!

Re: Project Evil Tow Rig - '87 CC SRW Conversion

Got some shots of the rear seat belts...Snnake-Oyl Products did the full treatment, re-chroming, restoration of all brushed finishes, re-detailed logos, all new webbing in a slightly different color to match the new interior, new anchors, they re-built all the retractor units and spring assemblies, etc. I am very happy!
