Re: 305 V-6 with dual Strombergs

OK, change #35. I removed the adapter that goes from the rochester to the Stromberg bolt pattern. That took out about an inch and a half of the overall height. I spent about 4 hours today custom making an adapter plate out of 3/8" aluminum plate. It turned out awesome! My throttle linkages are much smoother, I have more pedal and I think the truck has more power.

So now I have about 1 1/2" clearance between the top of the carbs and the 62-66 hood. I haven't put the 60-61 hood back on to see what clearance I have yet, but I bet it'll be about an inch or so.

So, now I can start fabricating a filter housing that will take the filter discs and have a weather stripping to mate to the hood. I think I am going to go with the 60-61 hood after all.

Re: 305 V-6 with dual Strombergs

Cort, glad you got it. It was by chance that I looked on e-bay that day. Imagine my luck when I found 2 scoops! I thought "these can't be that hard to find if I can find two the first time I looked". Guess we got extremely lucky!

Yeah we did get lucky! They shipped it out yesterday morning and right now I am fighting hell trying to get the right clutch parts for my Jimmy. I got another thread going on that disaster. I'll update it a little later.

From the top of the intake manifold to the top of the oil bath air filter is 8 1/4". The oil bath it self is about 5" or so.

Are you trying to find an original set-up?

That tri-carb set up is sick! Great work.

Here is a mock up.....excuse the mess in the background. Spring cleaning is being side tracked by projects.

Thanks Cort,
Yeah I was wanting to go back original...I found one at the salvage yard in a 63 truck but it's looks to be to big and has a small neck on it...

Your hood is going to look real nice with the scoop on it.

Re: 305 V-6 with dual Strombergs

4d,

It looks like that one is made for the Holley 1904 also. Is the very bottom a clamp type? If so, that's exactly what it is for but I thought everything from '63 up had two barrels......

The arch is a near perfect match for the arches on the front of the hood. And it fits so well in the valley on the hood you'd think the scoop was made for it. Good choice!

Re: 305 V-6 with dual Strombergs

It looks much better without the adapter and the scoop fits the hood perfectly. Gonna look awesome!

Not tryin' to jack your thread but...
Should my 305E have a breather in the valve cover? Right now it has a filler cap but I see lots of pics of 305s with a breather in the VC and some with one in each VC.

That beauty is gonna look sweet on there! Period perfect to boot!
That trailer would look cool with the aluminum all polished!

Not at all....

The early 305's have two breathers in the valve covers because they still had the road draft crankcase ventilation tube.

Later, when they came out with PCV, only one valve cover had a breather.
