yup thats it (a torque multiplier), they use them alot on old vw's for the rear axle nuts and a few other things

Yes it's a torque multiplier. For aircooled vw gland nuts and axle nuts. Their torque values are 230 ftlbs or more. With this tool, you only need about 30 ftlbs.
