Re: Gas Prices - Part 2
Good Ol' days indeed. Had to be maybe '74 or '75 judging from the price and the "step bumper" aka the new mandated crash bumpers on the back of that Nova (?) . In '66 I was a Junior in HS and recall that year locally with the gas wars going on at that the time the lowest I EVER have paid for gas was $0.16/9 a gallon for leaded regular and leaded ethyl was 3 cents higher. Cruise all night on a dollar in the tank, LOL. Ah, the memories.

Re: Gas Prices - Part 2
Well, it's been nearly a month.
Our local gas prices continue to ease down, 3 weeks into Jan. Last week our lowest price was $2.37

Re: Gas Prices - Part 2
I remember when gas took a big jump from 33 cents to close to 50!! It seems so minimum now, but that's more about 60-65%
Our gas price has dropped below $3 at the reasonable stations. The 1/2 reasonable ones are $3.09, and the unreasonable ones are another dime or more I noticed a convenience store at $2.99 had diesel at $3.99. The one at $3.09 had diesel at $3.49. So, they manipulate prices to be attractive to who they sell the most to. Up on the corner gets a lot of diesel pickups and contractor trucks and their equipment. The place with the lower gas is along the commuter cow path

Re: Gas Prices - Part 2
Local 87 octane corn squeezins is $2.51 per gallon. Better than it has been in quite some time. Gas has come down some what from the highs but sure don't see groceries being lowered with lower fuel costs which is always cited as a cost factor when on the way up.

Re: Gas Prices - Part 2
Well that $2.51 didn't last very long ! Went by that same station today and 87 octane corn squeezins is now $2.69. Damn, that was quick, $0.18 overnight. When it has gone down in the past it takes a week usually to drop a nickel.

Re: Gas Prices - Part 2
All relative . I made $2 and change working at a shell station around that time . So I could by 4 gallons for an hours work .
Today gas is 2.89 and McDonalds has a huge help wanted sign with starting salary $18 an hour . So basically 6 gallons for an hours work . The 70s werent as good as we remember neither were the 60s .

Re: Gas Prices - Part 2
I paid 3.29 for cheap grocery store 87 the other day. I see it as low as 3.28 but that's it.
When I go visit my son and family about 76 miles from me it costs me $50 round trip for gas and tolls and my Kia gets like 34 mpg on the highway. |

We were lucky this week . Purchased fuel at Sam's Club yesterday $ 2.59 a gallon. As always pricing is so volatile. With more and more on retirement we really notice this inflationary commodities.

Re: Gas Prices - Part 2
A few weeks ago, it was as low as $2.69, did a huge jump to $3.09 (some at $3.19) and it has taken some time to get back down under $3.
$2.99 is still 30 cents above the early January price.

Re: Gas Prices - Part 2
Filled my '99 Tahoe today for ....... $1.67/9 today! Of course that was after taking $1.00 per gallon off with our grocery store reward points. Nice at the gas station but no so much nice at the store. Fuel costs for the Tahoe or (fuel) groceries for the wife and I still add up now days. But I will take the $1.00 off at the pump whenever I can.

Re: Gas Prices - Part 2
Well gas in my hometown is 2.32 but a town away in Greeley there are still a few places to find gas at 1.99. That is why I think fuel companies are full of poop with the prices. Why are prices cheaper at the same exact 7-11 thirty miles away compared to my town or even higher at other stations. Nothing but pure greed if you ask me

Re: Gas Prices - Part 2
Coincidence there is an upcoming election and Russia just banned the export of petrol for six months?
U.S. Northeast Gasoline Reserve Could Be Sold Off The U.S. could sell off its 1-million-barrel Northeast Gasoline Supply Reserve in the fiscal year of 2024, a funding bill up for discussion at U.S. Congress says. Under the draft text of the bill, the Secretary of Energy shall draw down and sell one million barrels of refined petroleum product from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve during fiscal year 2024. Upon the completion of such sale, the Secretary shall carry out the closure of the Northeast Gasoline Supply Reserve, says the bill. HERE: https://oilprice.com/Latest-Energy-N...-Sold-Off.html

Re: Gas Prices - Part 2
Well we have risen $0.50 per gallon since I posted last when it was $2.69 per. Now at $3.19 for 87 octane corn squeezins. I'm pretty sure this is just short stop before heading further upward. Bound to help out our national economy I'm sure! (Heavy sarcasm meant there!)

And 15% gasohol will likely be allowed this summer with waiver renewal then allowed permanently:
Exclusive: Biden administration to approve E15 gasoline expansion starting in 2025, sources say U.S. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack said at a conference on Tuesday he was confident that expanded sales of E15 would be available across the country in 2025 and that, until then, the administration would likely issue temporary waivers this summer to enable sales.
