Re: Project: "just a little rust repair, turned LS2 swap"

Also we took it across the scales at a local gravel pit, it weighed 3340 pounds with James and I in it and 2980 with us out of it! a lot lighter then I though it would be.

I know! I never would have guessed that!! It still needs rear wheel wells and bed floor but other then that the weight was on it, the stock vette that the suspension came from weighs right around 3,300 pounds and I think a stock SWB of ours is almost 3,700

Having an all aluminum engine and many aluminum suspension components definitely paid off especially with your tube chassis. That weight is amazing for a street bound truck.

Great project. Keep it up.

Re: Project: "just a little rust repair, turned LS2 swap"

right now i feel cutting the frame would be alittle extreme, but maybe down the road....

how much trouble did you have with cutting the frame into a shortbed?

Well we didn't have to cut my stock frame down since we built the tube chassis, we did shorten the bed though

Thanks guys! It runs and handles awesome, way better then I would've imagined it.The rear end has a 3.07 gear in it so I'm researching some 3.73's now. It doesn't have the pick up at low end with gears that high but as soon as it hits about 2500 RPM it comes to life, and 5th and 6th gear aren't even useable with those 3.07's unless you were doing about 100+ lol. But the 3.73's should really help.

I will get some more pictures posted!

It was a good bit of work but the guy helping me makes everything look to easy lol, we cut right at the bulk head and right in front of the rear marker lights. The front of the bed we cut straight but cut by marker in kind of a Z to help it go back together.

Re: Project: "just a little rust repair, turned LS2 swap"

We've been doing some driving and had minor issues to adjust, we had to clearance the wheel wells on the bed side of the truck because the suspension squats so hard under acceleration that the tires were rubbing a little, and the past week we spent messing with and adjusting brakes. We ended up have to cut my master cylinders out and re-working my pedal ratio because the braking was pretty bad. But we've got all that fixed and she locks the tires up and lets the smoke roll now.

could you explain the tab you welded to the front of the hood? is it for show or just to hook the hood to the ceiling?

lol yeah it's just a tab tacked on, it's hard to see but there is one on the back of the hood to. We use a sling on a cherry picker to take it on and off when there is just one person, makes life much easier
