It is really hard to tell a lot of times. There seems to be lots of variations/discrepancies on this...especially between the plants.
Thanks, I'll keep looking when I get back up there. Unfortunately the truck is in Utah and I am in CA.

That is your VIN number, assuming its still the original frame. The frame "part number" is stamped on the side of the frame rail. The one in your picture is on top by the motor mount. If you need, there are people out there can reproduce a vin tag for these reasons.

I'm back to thinking there are some numbers missing then. The "J" could stand for Jainesville, Wi. The year should be in front of the "J" and the six following numbers are the serno.(?)

I guess that you are demanding an instant answer by using all capitals/ you know if you are going to input new ser.# onto another frame, i wouldn't tell the world

Re: Where is my 60-66 Chevy or GMC vin number?

I have a 1961 Chevy short bed with VIN # 1C144K108380. I'm trying to figure out if it was originally a Fleetside or Stepside. Where can I find the model # on it?

You can't. You need to look for clues. Does it have or has it ever had the little triangle fillers at the back of the cab just inside the cab corners? All stepsides had those little fillers.. its also possible it was a cab and chassis and didn't have a bed originally.

I believe the J stands for Jainesville, Wi. the origin of manufacture. The build number is after that. or serial number.

Re: Where is my 60-66 Chevy or GMC vin number?

60-66 is correct, also check out the #'s on post # 3 of this thread, they just put the year, assembly plant, and vin on the frame, all the other vin info was left off, apparently according to the pic of your 63, and 60-66's 63, they did not stamp the year date before the plant, like they did on the 65 and 66 that I pictured earlier in the thread,,,
as stated the "J" is for the Janesville plant.

Re: Where is my 60-66 Chevy or GMC vin number?

If you look under the cab where the little filler parts would attach. There will be 3 screw holes to hold the edge of the filler on and one hole further forward for a support bracket. No screw holes means it wasn't originally a stepside.. but if they are there.. it most likely was.

Re: Where is my 60-66 Chevy or GMC vin number?

Alright I checked the cab on the 61 and it has the three screw holes. I also checked under my 62 fleetside longbed and it has the holes as well. The 62 is all original...so I'm thinking maybe they all have those holes.

No they don't have those screw holes unless it had those fillers..

Re: Where is my 60-66 Chevy or GMC vin number?

Hello all, I need help. I know this thread has been quiet for awhile but I'm going to bring it back to life. I recently came into possession of what I thought and what the title said was a 63 GMC C10. After reading most of the post on this thread is decided to verify the VIN # to the title and could not find and plates on the Cab. So I decided to check the LH frame and found these 0151610 in the two places mentioned in previous post. I can't find any information about this # anywhere, and it does not match the title VIN# any help would be appreciated. "0151610"

Re: Where is my 60-66 Chevy or GMC vin number?

Gmc does not have have a vin on the frame.
If indeed you bought an original gmc.
Gmc is not a "C10". C10 is a chevy designation.
A 1/2 ton GMC is a 1000 series.
IF your GMC is a coil rear suspension, but was built in the US, it has probably received a frame swap.
The vin on a 63 is on the drivers side door jam next to the windshield. If it's an earlier cab, it could be on the drivers kick panel in front of the vent.

Re: Where is my 60-66 Chevy or GMC vin number?

Thank you for the information I did not know any of that, I'm just learning bits and pieces again thank you. So now my problem is that I have no way to find out what the real VIN# is since someone removed all tabs and placards from inside the cab.

Re: Where is my 60-66 Chevy or GMC vin number?

Vin = 1502CG2592B

Blank = 2WD (if there was a K first, it would be 4WD)
15 = 3/4 ton
02 = 127" wheelbase
C = Oakland Plant
G = 1963
2592 = Vehicle Number
B= 7000 lbs GVW

Red face Re: Where is my 60-66 Chevy or GMC vin number?

My vin has an H for where it was made. Can someone help me figure out what the plant is? Also I would like to know if it has the original motor or not? My vin is 4C144H159472 AND THE ENGINE HAS 5129742 AND V1121TXO. I'm having a hard time figuring it out. I have a 64 Chevy fleetside shortbed truck made 09/64. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Where is my 60-66 Chevy or GMC vin number?

I'm not finding a TXO small block suffix code. Are you sure it isn't TXC?

http://www.nastyz28.com/gm-chevy-cod...s-suffix-9.php

Either way, since it has a 3 letter code, that engine is not original to your truck.
