I wish it was that easy.
I'm too busy buying parts for different trucks.
I need to FOCUS!

I'd really like to throw a different engine/tranny combo in NO-LIFE and take it to Kansas Goodguys.
Focus,... focus,....

Re: Project: NO-LIFE,...

A quick NO-LIFE update.
Nate, (72BlckButy) came up early this morning to help me re-arrange my garage area so I would have a place to park my '69.
(thanks Nate!)
We thought starting early would beat the heat,... but that didn't happen.

Now that I finally got moving on Project: Ginger,... I've decided to finish up a few things with this truck, that I should have done along time ago.
(I can't remember when I last drove this truck)

I installed a different battery, couple quarts of transmission fluid, and got the truck moving again.
It's got an old 4-row radiator and decent looking hoses,... but I'm going to install all new hoses and belts, along with a new radiator.
Also on the list is a new windshield,... and probably swap out the tired leaking powerglide for a TH350.
I put a can of Trans-X in the transmission and some Seafoam in my full tank of old gas,... and took it for a spin.

These pics were after a late afternoon wash.

Any suggestions on a good radiator?
Aluminum is not necessary.
I want to run the original shroud and mechanical fan.

Keith,
You wear me out with all these so called "beaters". Anytime you run out of room to store any of them let me know I will babysit for you and put new gas in it once a week at least. Sounds like Nate is good people just like most members on this board. Nice of him to join you for some sweat.

Thanks for the info.
The one you listed is just a 2-row radiator.
I'd really like to have a 4-row copper/brass version or a 2-row big tube aluminum radiator.

Re: Project: NO-LIFE,...

Today I pulled the radiator out and started to clean up a few parts.
No one has 292 6-cylinder parts in town.
Ordered a new water pump and picked up the hoses that finally came in.
I need to paint a few small pieces.
It's hard to stop and not clean up everything.

I did make a new vacuum line for the HEI's vacuum advance.
(I need the bending practice for Ginger's brake lines)
My fan shroud was also junk.
Luckliy I had one on my parts truck.
With a little cleaning it looks almost new.

I also gave the truck a coat of wax.
(just to protect the patina)
It was hard not just taking the buffer to it.

Re: Project: NO-LIFE,...

I've been working on the truck all week.
Installed new hoses, water pump, and added fuel filter.
Re-bent a new steel fuel line, and basically cleaned up the wiring.
Today I pulled the powerglide out.
Lets just say it was a fight and the truck almost won.
I spent 1-1/2 hours cleaning up my mess.
I have a few things to do before I install the rebuilt TH350.
Tomorrow I'm pulling the seat back out and installing a high hump transmission cover.

Here's a crappy cell phone pic of how I left it tonight.

Sounds like some great progress Keith. You definetly have a lot on your plate right now. I bet that powerglide was a pain to get out. I bet it hasn't been out in a few years. More pics when you get the time.

With the combination of the trans set-back (because it's a 6-cylinder truck), the low hump, and a stuck converter,... I just barely got it out.
With the trans out, and no converter bolts,... I still had to pry the converter off the crank. (I've never seen anything like it)

Converter has 41 yrs of stuck. Glad you got it off.
Is the high hump for easier re-install? Or do you have bigger block plans in the future?

I originally had planned to put a Dropmember in this truck.
I purchased a very crappy looking rubber floor mat from Brothers Truck Parts,... and was never happy with it's "non-original" appearance.
I've had new "high hump" carpet laying around for a couple years.

So it will get a high hump and new carpet, now,... and maybe a Dropmember in the future. (maybe)
It's gotta make the trans install easier also.

Re: Project: NO-LIFE,...

I spent the afternoon pulling out the seat and "new" rubber floor mat for a "high hump" trans cover install.
I used 10 "nutserts" to hold the new cover in place.
These are great for attaching a nut to a blind hole.

The high hump cover came from the parts board here,... and happened to be the same color as my truck.
The rest of the floor has POR-15 on it.
It took almost as long to cut and trim the new carpet as it did to do the rest of the job.

Nice work Keith.

I'm curious though.... what does everyone use to ensure there's a good seal between the trans cover & floor?

This high hump had the some original gasket remaining.
It looked like a foam "rope type" gasket stuck to a groove in the hump.
I removed all of that and repainted the bottom side.
I just use silcone on the flat of the cover.
Bolt it in.
And then get under the truck and put another bead in between the two layers of sheet metal.

Thanks guys.
I really hate redoing things,... but that rubber floor mat drove me crazy.
Multiple wrinkles and a weird pebble surface.
I hate to sell it, because it looks so bad.
I'm not sure what I'm going to do with it.

This '69 red interior color (looks maroon to me), is a weird color.
The dash and door panels look kinda purple.
I have a set of re-pop PUI door panels that match the seat upholstery better,... but the dash pad is an odd ball color also.
I even purchased another oem '69 dash pad,... but it's the same color.
Definitely not the bright red that came in the 1970 trucks.
