Congrats dude! So what are your long term plans for the truck, as far as restoration, mods, etc.?

Hmm, well I wanna put in bedliner (x-line or rhino line), toolbox in bed, finish interior and finally get my seat redone, transmission rebuild, sand down and paint axle/frame, sport bumper on back , bumper guards on front, different grill, hidden led bed lights, and just stuff like that.

Re: 77 Silverado Build thread

Well went up to the shop today to try to get the new intake/carb finished up. Found out someone broke into the truck and stole my stereo. Really pisses me off that people do that king of sh*t. Luckily they left the tools, and 6 speakers there that were worth more than the stereo. And they cut all the wires where I had connected them so luckily it was hacked up to bad. Got the carb and vacuum lines hooked up. POS glass inline filter leaked (don't worry I was about to get a metal one anyway) so tomorrow I gotta get a new filter and other odds and ends.

Hopefully tomorrow everything will be running right. All the emissions and charcoal canister are out so it has been simplified alot.

Re: 77 Silverado Build thread

Think I might have got the thing running....almost. For a month I've been down and then the last week I finally had time to get the new carb on and tweaked (floats adjusted, cleaned, etc) so it doesn't leak. Bad thing is I don't have spark anymore. Couldn't have come at a worse time as the truck was half in half out of the shop that's on a hill. F the truck is heavy.

Anyway, gave me an excuse to ask for money for a new distributor since a new cap/coil/wires/ would almost be as much as a new distributor. Going to install the new MSD Streetfire tonight (hopefully) and finally get this sucker running.

Re: 77 Silverado Build thread

What is the part number of this MSD distributor? How much and where did you get it from?

Does it fit on both 454 and 350 or either of them?

good luck

Part # 8362 at O'Riellys was like $130sih.

It is supposed to fit both SBC and BBC engines.

Re: 77 Silverado Build thread

Messed around with the carb and finally got it to stop leaking. Drove home from the shop and it died once, not really sure what caused this but if it keeps happening the trucks going to have to be grounded again...hopefully it won't. I get white smoke starting and a little driving but since the carb is already toned down (idle mixture) I will just have to see if it needs to be jetted down when I get the new engine going. (1 month )

Found out the reason I have half a pedal was a) no back brake fluid and b) the back of the master cylinder leaks and that's why I had no fluid. Now I gotta drive carefully and pick up a new master cylinder soon.

Re: 77 Silverado Build thread

Man, I see that I've been neglecting my duties to update this thread! Been pretty busy this summer though. Guess I'll start where I left off.

Ended up doing tons of labor tinkering with the carb. Think I finally got it going.

Replaced brake master cylinder and booster to find that the new MC leaked all of the back fluid out, and it ran down the back of the MC and all over the booster. Now they are both covered in rust. Don't know what to do about that.

Finally pulled the engine out and also pulled the tranny while I was at it. Tranny will go to the shop to be rebuilt and bolted on to the new engine. Hopefully won't have to wait to terribly long to get the funds but hopefully get all this stuff back on before September since schools starts in mid-August.

The new engine isn't going to have any of the emissions crap besides the PCV valve. All new parts (fuel pump, water pump, harmonic balancer) and I'm trying to get some Edelbrock elite valve covers to go with the aluminum intake and carb. Looking at getting some ceramic coated headers while I'm at it because I don't want to bother with the manifolds, and it could get a little louder.

Don't know if I mentioned this but my stereo got stolen a little while back but my step-brother gave me one he was selling that is actually an upgrade from the one that I had.

Keep ya updated with my progress.

Re: 77 Silverado Build thread

Looks good. If you have access to a pressure washer, now it a great time to get the engine bay cleaned up. A little work here now pays off a ton later.

I don't know if you saw the post in the A/C thread, but I have a good A/C compressor for you if you want it.

Hey, thanks for the offer but I'm pretty sure my current compressor is good. I plan on putting some simple green on everything and power washing it because I want to paint the firewall and frame black before the other engine goes in. The brown firewall really gets at me since the truck is black...pet peeve I guess. Also I have decided to get some Headman headers for the new engine so I'll be adding those to the list. Since I'm doing headers I'm going to have to get a double hump crossmember to clean up the pipes and not have to do a ton of crazy bends.

Re: 77 Silverado Build thread

Been collecting parts for the last month. Trans will hopefully go to the shop for a rebuild Tuesday. With the start of school I had to shell out like 800$ for classes and books so we are broke for a while.

Took a trip to the junkyard and found some goodies including: bumper guards, cab trim, sidemarkers, 73-76 trans crossmember, 1 ton sway bar, etc.

Bought new horn button after I spent an hour cleaning goop off of the steering wheel.

Mentioned to my dad about possibly getting truck rallies and painting them the same color as my truck, I got a txt today saying he bought a set of truck rallies w/ beauty rings and center caps.

Re: 77 Silverado Build thread

Ran up to the shop to drop some parts off, ended up spending an hour replacing the steering wheel with the new type. Pulled the old one off without a puller, almost broke my face luckily my head dogged the flying steering wheel when the nut flew off as well.

I know for me that there are little things that make a difference in how something appears, for me just adding a steering wheel with a horn button that matched the rest of the interior just makes everything a lot better looking.

Not in yet. I have the th350 in the back of my moms truck to drop it off tomorrow, and it should take a week to rebuild. Talked it over with my stepdad and we just decided to have our friends at an auto shop install and break in the engine. We probably could have but we just don't have the time and we don't want to screw anything up.

On another note, painting up all the hardware and changed out the motor mounts with some new polyurethane ones from Energy Suspension. I found out that the passenger mount rubber had sheared and failed, and I never knew it.

Re: 77 Silverado Build thread

Well, not much progress. Pretty much flat broke so transmission is holding everything up. Tough couple weeks. Probably going to have a TransGo Stage 1-2 shift kit installed on the tranny whenever the funds are available.

Did get some vinyl decals for the center caps and repainted all of the cab trim.

Half an hour? Really not a hard job at all. Goes faster if you have 2 people though.
