Re: 1964 Caprick-up = (C10+SWB)*(94 Caprice 9C1+LT1)
Got 30 minutes in tonight... Mounted the brake pedal assembly (pics tomorrow). I mounted the booster, master cylinder and the column. Then I mocked up the steering joints. Spent a few minutes on the top radiator mounts trying to come up with an idea that will look decent on the top of the radiator support.

Here is the brake pedal assembly. I hooked it all up and have a full pedal...

Radiator top mounts.. I think the brackets are off a mid 80's chevy pickup. The local pickup salvage yard owner gave them to me.. Not quite done. Need some more clean up.. I will have to modify the front core panel things to go around them..

Re: 1964 Caprick-up = (C10+SWB)*(94 Caprice 9C1+LT1)
Modified the steering column bracket and added about 2 inches to it in order to push the column down far enough to clear the brake booster.
I also cut a hole in firewall behind the front passenger tire. Modifying the inner fender wheels to accommodate the wiring harness and fuse block will be needed. I also plan to make a cover under the inner fender and around the wiring to protect it. Not that I plan on driving in the rain and mud but better to plan and be safe then not and be sorry..

Re: 1964 Caprick-up = (C10+SWB)*(94 Caprice 9C1+LT1)
Grounded the cab, frame and core support today. Welded in 2 grounds on either side of the interior of the cab. I ran all the wiring and hooked up a battery and the computer.
Turned it over and it tried to start. Had to make a quick frame ground for the rear harness and then the fuel pump started working. Started right up.. Purred like a kitten....... I had a goal to hear it run by March 1st.. Check.. Now for inner fenders and finish up mocking up the front end so i can tear it apart again and paint the cab...

Sweet it worked.. Does anyone know where I can get a seat cover for my 5 gallon bucket seat?? Oh and yes my throttle is a broken cable that is located just outside the window....
the first time I started it the remote power steering reservoir was upside down the first time I started it. Now it is noisy.. Maybe some Lucas will clear it up....

Installed the throttle cable and set the bed in place.. Took off the inner fenders from another donor truck and started to mock them up to fit the frame and bigger radiator.
Then I did a little "grass slinging" in the back yard. I almost fell off my bucket!!!

It was VERY clean... But I was going to sacrifice the motor and trans so I just decided to tranplant all the organs... At the time I didnt have a short bed frame anyway.

I am not real sure how the weight distribution will be and whether that will cause problems on or not. I am not schooled enough on ABS. But I think it will be pretty close. It may even be lighter then the caprice when I get done.. That caprice body is HEAVY... The curb weight shows to be 4600 pounds.. 4100 dry..

Re: 1964 Caprick-up = (C10+SWB)*(94 Caprice 9C1+LT1)
I have been looking at replacing the 9C1 springs with Impala SS springs. They have the same tension but the SS spring is 1.5-2 inches lower. The ride is supposed to be about the same. I can get an entire set for less than 200 bucks delivered to the door..
The plan for now is to keep the springs I have until the entire body weight is on it then see if I like what I see...

The 9c1 springs ride a little harder. We been swapping back and forth for years, and some guys like the 9c1 front and SS rears, others like the SS all the way around.

Re: 1964 Caprick-up = (C10+SWB)*(94 Caprice 9C1+LT1)
The ss springs in the back may level it out real nice. I have looked at 2 inch drop also. I have been debating on it a lot. But I do not want it to low.. I would like to still be able to pull my boat to the lake.... The great thing about the Caprice is they have a ton of bolt on parts for the suspension..

You could bag it easy, too. Making awesome progress, I love the fab work.

Re: 1964 Caprick-up = (C10+SWB)*(94 Caprice 9C1+LT1)
Bags are a LOT cheaper than most people think. If you just replace the coils with bags ($200), run lines ($30), manual valves ($150 for nice ones), small 3 gallon tank and compressor ($200) then just fab up the mounting brackets since you clearly have the skills for that.
You could even go with a tank with shrader valve and add a compressor later. I was so happy I did it on my '69 and will run air from now on. If you just plumed it with bags and shraders, just carry a 12v tire pump. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=442745 For $300, you are rolling, then add air management later.

It already has a "car" suspension and that suspension was designed around a totally different body configuration than a truck. The weight is in totally different places now. That chassis surely won't react the same way it did with that luxury car body on it. Sport package, luxury or not, whatever it was it sure wasn't a truck sitting on it and it didn't ride like a truck thats for sure. So, I agree, get it running and driving, work out the bugs completely and then design the bag system you will need to get it to perform the way you feel it should. To me, that is the logical route. Again, just my penny and a half.

I think its gonna be fine. Think of the weight in that caprice body, hell the doors alone probably weigh the same as the cab. This is sick. I cant wait to see it finished. Nice job!
