Re: Vintage YOM License Plate Thread
A couple more pairs I have... the CT ones pictured here are the ones I'm really using on the truck. They are registered at the DMV as YOM combination plates while I keep "Early American" plates in the glovebox as per CT law. What I like about this is the fact that nobody on the Internet can trace out the plates without having direct access to the DMV's internal documents. If you ever see the dark blue plates without starting in "C" or "CA" they are passenger plates and were never issued to pickup trucks. I'm willing to bet you never see another truck out there running the correct YOM plates in CT. The CA plates here are not correct for trucks (as most of you already know) but I keep a pair just in case I ever register an old car in California

Re: Vintage YOM License Plate Thread
Correct for this one owner 72 GMC K1500.
Ten year old vehicles in MT can be permanently registered for a nominal one time fee - no more annual registration fees after that!

Re: Vintage YOM License Plate Thread
Missouri is easy as pie to register YOM. There is also a guy who goes by "License Plate Larry" and he can get anything you want. I have them on my '71. Had them on my '87 (first and only according to the DMV that year). Dad has NOS tags he bought never used with paint still in the holes on his '62 Nova and '63 Nova wagon. I also have a '50 tag complete with metal year ready to go for when that project is done. Interesting note on the '50 tag, the green year piece is for passenger cars, the truck one is white/orange and last one I saw was going for $200.

Re: Vintage YOM License Plate Thread
Stupid question, can you repaint plates? Either body color or just to restore the look?

Re: Vintage YOM License Plate Thread
not a stupid question at all, but, the answer is no to body color. I wouldn't hesitate restoring a set to original colors though (I think it is fine as long as no alterations are made). But, make sure you can do it well - if it looks real home-made, might attract the local constabulary... C/10 King has had GREAT success with this, Rene and his wife make some gorgeous plates - check em out: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=506827

Re: Vintage YOM License Plate Thread
My two 67's. I can't have a custom plate on the back of my C50 since it's over 1.5 Ton according to the DMV. Hoping to have it reclassified when it's back on the road.
Anyone know what AB is on the Colorado plate? I have it on the front because it matches the paint.

Not in Florida, it has to be original and in good condition. You have to send the plate to the DMV at the capital to have them inspect it. After you have it back however....

Re: Vintage YOM License Plate Thread
That looks great! We have a WTF-## Wash ita county tag on the 59 Apache. Its not YOM like yours though. I think its WTF-70. Did you refinish it yourself or send it somewhere?

Re: Vintage YOM License Plate Thread
This isn't my truck, it's my car. But since it's a vintage plate thread I figured I'd throw it in there. Same plate number for 45 years now! Except it was originally in Sask and now in WA.
Unfortunately our state won't let you run a vintage plate that doesn't match the number-letter format of the originals, and "116" was OK in Sasktchewan but not here, so it has to be licensed as a vanity plate. And can't be registered a collector plate then. Silly bureaucrats!

Re: Vintage YOM License Plate Thread
I've held on to a blue 1967 Ohio tag for years hoping one day to put it on a 67. Got a 69 C10 and couldn't find a TN tag that was stamped 1969. Found a tag out of KY for a county with the same name as the one I live in now in TN.

Re: Vintage YOM License Plate Thread
This is the set im currently running. The verticle numbers (77) is the county number which is not my county. So i am on the hunt for plates with a vertical (20) 1968. Finding one is easy. So you vintage plate collectors out there, do some digging . Willing to pay up..

Re: Vintage YOM License Plate Thread
This was my scores from the Frog Follies swap meet last weekend. The plate is from the county I live in. I will be running it as my plate on the back with my '67 Daviess County KY tag on the front (where I'm from).

Re: Vintage YOM License Plate Thread
Wife and I came to Branson, MO this week to do, among other things, a little fishing. While sitting on bench in the front of an antique flea market waiting for the wife to make her rounds, I noticed a couple guys walking up to pay for old license plates. Thinking of this thread I decided to do a little exploring on my own and walked around a corner to see this. Lot's of vintage plates hanging on the wall. Take special note of the Kansas plate then check out my avatar.
