Levi, I have a used B&M shifter I can hook you up with cheap. I also have a tilt telescopic column from a 78 vette too. LOL And I have a 16 gallon plastic fuel cell cheap too if you want to go that route.

Re: 1950 Chevy 3600 - Bumper Punchin'
thanks man
Nope. Well, i did get some mid week stuff done like cutting the floor out for the tranny tunnel and i started in on the paper template for it. I also picked up a hurst T handle shifter and a 16 gal fuel cell. I spent this weekend building a 10x10 shed so that i can get the crap out of my garage and will have room to park both the '50 and the '69 in the garage for the summer. Got everything except trim done on the shed in 2 days. Saturday was snowing so it was slow going. I'll post up some pics of the shed in the Othere Projects forum tonight. With any luck, next weekend will be highly productive as everything from Scotts Hotrods should be here. |

Re: 1950 Chevy 3600 - Bumper Punchin'
updates updates updates!
lots of progress and pics this weekend. my IFS showed up from Scotts on friday, and i had the crossmember mocked up by friday night. It was actually a little wider than my frame, so i needed to add some steel to get a good fit. fortunately i had some .125" steel plate, and each side needed exactly .125". So, a little cutting and trimming and we were good to go. Now the cross member sits waiting for a better welder than myself to finish it up. |

Re: 1950 Chevy 3600 - Bumper Punchin'
the rest of the weekend was spent helping a buddy move, and then working on the tunnel. It's nearly done, but time ran out for the night tonight. Here's a bunch of pics showing what i ended up with and how i got there.
Alexis really wanted to help, so i got her all "safety geared up". ear plugs in (not just her fingers) hat to hold her hair, face mask, and long sleeves. my wife got a couple pics of her. |

Re: 1950 Chevy 3600 - Bumper Punchin'
more pics:
and at one point i had all three kids helping out. each with a job appropriate for the skill level. Mikie did some good work on the 10 bolt rear i got from bob68327. after he did this i got the "big boy" grinder out (7" dewalt" and took care of the remaining brackets and junk. wife and kids put on some rubber gloves and put 2 coats of POR 15 on it. really it was just something for them to do as some will get grinded off when i do the rear end. no pics of the rear as it sits now |

Re: 1950 Chevy 3600 - Bumper Punchin'
i was going to put this before the pic of the sheetmetal with all of the plate steel and clamps on it, but cannot edit the post now...
**************************************** and when you don't have a sheetmetal brake.... you improvise. the big "U" tunnel will be under the seat, so the hammer marks are a non-concern. I did decide to go with a 3 piece setup for the front half of the tunnel. just so it looks a bit better. I need to practice my welding though |

I have some other pics for you once i'm done. Also, make sure you use anti-seize even for mock up. shinny parts got me all excited and now i'm looking at possibly having to buy another upper arm due to the rod end seizing in the tub. It's all good man. After all, if you hadn't had your tree issues, and welded in the crossmember, i wouldn't have the tunnel finished now. It'll get done soon enough. Hopefully I can have the motor mounts ready before you get here too. Thanks Nate. I think that was the first time all 3 were out there at the same time and not horsing around. Usually I can keep 1 or two busy, but all three is a challenge. |

Re: 1950 Chevy 3600 - Bumper Punchin'
So tonight's update comes with no pics since my wife is off to a concert with my daughter and has the camera with her. I'm embarrassed to say what 90's pop band they are seeing, so I won't.
anyways, the tranny tunnel is now done, firewall to back of cab. Now lets just hope the tranny fits in there when I get that set in later this week. |

Thanks for the heads up. Hope you don't have to get another upper arm.
I remember making my little sister so mad trashing her New Kids stuff. Good times.

Re: 1950 Chevy 3600 - Bumper Punchin'
Had some time over the last couple days to get the motor mounts mocked up. I like how it sits, however, it looks like it needs to go back 3" to clear the radiator. I need to do some more measuring on, but I've marked out what i plan to cut in the firewall. I'm not overly excited about cutting it up as I don't want to cut out to much, but then again i don't want the valve covers or dizzy to hit.
here are the pics:
