Wow, I really like the look of that rear bumper. Suits the lines of the truck much better than the 50s-style stock rear bumper. Any mods to mount it? Stock mounts or the later mounts? I suspect they are the same.

No mods whatsoever. Direct bolt-on using the the 67-72 brackets. I did trim about 1/8" off of the lower outside edges, but just so they'd follow the body lines better.

I don't have time to work on my truck, so I stop by my favorite threads to satisfy my urge, and nobody else seems to be getting much done on theirs either.

You seem to have quite a bit of work going on, Gilbert. I know it never seems like enough.

I did start my power steering conversion yesterday. I bought the setup off a forum member, but had never even opened the box. I removed the alternator and mocked up the pump and bracket. I then discovered that I'll need an additional pulley on the crank for it to line up right. I ordered that today off of eBay (noticed afterward that seller is only 45 miles north of me) and I've spent this evening with the first round of degreasing the pump, bracket and steering box. I'll be ordering Captain Fab's bracket before the evening is over.

I also got my underdash courtesy lights installed where I wanted them and stopped by autozone today and picked up the door jamb switches to complete that mod. My goal is to install those, the jeep cherokee door checks and rattle trap the doors all at the same time. I hate having to go back and work in the same area.

I just switched phones so I haven't figured out the best way to upload my pics, but they'll be forthcoming. Nothing mind shattering, just proof that I'm actually doing this stuff.

Been degreasing, sandblasting and painting parts for the power steering install. Mine will never be a show truck, but I just couldn't stand to install the "new to me" parts without sprucing them up. Some day I'll pull the engine and get it all cleaned up, but that's WAAAAY down on the list of my priorities.

Here's a shot of the installed the underdash lights that I got. Not sure what the existing holes under the dash were for, but they were spaced perfectly.

Also included is a shot of the pump mounting brackets in place. I should have the pump and engine compartment all buttoned up this evening and then on to the box and steering shaft mod.

While I've been waiting for paint to dry, I've been doing other minor things related to some of the other improvements that I've already stated. I'm hesitant to get too much apart at once for fear of feeling overwhelmed. That feeling is what resulted in my shut down last year. From then on out, I promised myself to take baby steps. From the start, I've committed to doing everything remotely possible to do all of the work myself. Since my mechanical skills are no where near what many of you guys have, I don't want to get so deep that I have to end up hiring someone to help me finish something.

Cool, & I totally understand you about cleaning things up a little before installing new parts. That's what led me to scraping & wire brushing everything possible before painting the areas related to my 5-lug disc swap & steering rebuild. Like you, I'm not as mechanically inclined as many folks here either, but luckily my dad can help with the majority of that. You're on the right track with taking baby steps.

It also looks like you probably have the same P/S setup we installed on mine. And I've wondered what those under-dash holes are for as well (if you're referring to factory ones).

where are the courtesy lights from?

I ordered them from a guy that sells them on the 67-72 parts board. I think they came off of blazers and square bodies, but can't say for sure.

Another evening of painting and cleanup left me down time to get the original floormat out of the truck. I guess I should do some reading before I undertake new ventures because I never expected to encounter friggin roofing grade tar paper underneath! The upside is that I was pleased with the condition of the floorpan under the goop. Now I just need to figure out how to get rid of all of that sticky stuff.

Once that's all removed, I'll finally be able to lay the Rattle Trap sound deadener and get the carpet installed.

Lastly, I was able to pickup this mid size truck toolbox. It fits nicely down in the bed, below the bed rails. I replaced the shocks for the lid and plan on repainting it and creating some custom mounting brackets so that it sits up flush with the bed rails, but elevated from the floor so that I can still carry long items that will extend underneath it.

just read your thread kinda in reverse order and i gotta say, you've done a great job with the mods. especially like the seat and wheels you did. thats one lucky truck and you're one lucky guy to own her. keep up the good work.

Not a ton of work being done on the truck, but I'm making progress. I got all of the "goo" off of the floorpan and started to wire brush the minor surface rust on the back of the cab. I've decided to lay down some POR-15, as a precautionary measure, before I put the sound deadener down.

I managed to get the power steering pump installed with the correct pulley offset, the old steering box off, and the steering shaft cut to accept the power box. Next step is to drill and install using CaptainFab's adapter plate.

I'm just a shadetree mechanic that happens to have a garage to work in. Unfortunately, I have been frustrated by my workspace and lack of organization. Consequently, the Mrs. surprised me with a new tool chest and locking cabinet for my birthday this weekend. Spent the last few days getting that together and starting to get organized. Must be my OCD that makes me stress over that stuff.

Man I wish! I've completed the sanding on 2 of them so far. Once the progressive sanding is done, I still have to polish. I just constructed a couple of sawhorses so now I have an extra "work table". That should expedite some of my projects.

Work life had the truck stalled for some time. I've been dabbling in things, but no real work until a few weeks ago. I'm goal oriented, so I've committed to make Dino's Git Down this year and therefore, work has resumed. For those of you that follow me on Instagram, this will be a repeat of stuff I've already put on there.

I've formally decided to eliminate the factory tank and I'll be installing a Boyd Welding tank in the rear. I ordered the side fill tank, but I plan on having the filler in the corner of the bed, behind the wheel well. I have a couple of ideas swirling about for that. Additionally, I picked up a nice used drop hitch at a recent swap meet. To get those both installed the way I want, I decided I need to remove the bed of the truck. To do that, I decided that I needed to make some of those fancy wheel cribs.

I managed to start the bed removal last night and, once again, I blessed the previous owners for keeping this old girl in the garage for most of its life. The bed mounting bolts came off with such ease.

I'm still planning on going with the slots, but I've given up on finishing the polishing myself. I'm either going to pay someone to polish them locally or bite the bullet and send them to Detroit Vintage Wheels to have them done right.

More to come as work continues. I forgot how good of therapy this is!

On your rear bumper, is that a 67-72 bumper for a fleetside or stepside? Noticed the tapered ends.

It's for a fleetside. I ground down the lips just a bit, but nothing would be visible in that photo. That's as it came.

I managed to get the bed off today with the help.of my brother and nephews. The PO welded a homemade hitch to the frame so I need to remove the remnants of that to allow the boyd tank to fit. I'm going to remove the rear frame crossmember to allow the tank to sit inside the frame.
