Re: My 52 GMC Build
I started to make the intake hat out of the old air cleaner. I can't believe how much restriction there was from factory. Glad I'm cutting that out!!

Re: My 52 GMC Build
So the mail man was my friend today. Got my new waist gate actuator. It has a 7 psi spring in it, so I can start off running 7psi till I work the bugs out. Then I can tune it to 15psi. The factory one has a 19psi spring. I'll have pics tomorrow of intercooler mounted, intake hat and actuator.

Re: My 52 GMC Build
Today I got my inter-cooler in and hooked up.
First pic is looking where the rad should be. Second pic is the intake hat that I made. Third pic the 3" hose I'm using. It should work it's rated at 230* and 30 psi. I don't think it looks to bad.

Just my unsolicited opinion, but I don't like the flexi hose for the turbo outlet to the intercooler is a good idea. Since you're planning on cranking up the boost, your turbo outlet temperature could end up very close to the 230°C limit of that hose, but you may also get extra heat transfer from the engine bay to the air in the hose. I guess my point is, do you want to take the risk of melting the hose and feeding dirty air into the engine? I think solid plumbing would not only work better, but would be safer and perform better. Just one opinion. |

Re: My 52 GMC Build
Nice work. I as well, don't think that type of hose will work for you either. Something tells me if it doesn't rip, it'll just blow apart. Thicker type stick hose from a heavy truck shop may work decent though. I try not to use any long hose on intake systems because it's hard to keep them on. At 15psi you won't have as many issues, but the vlume of air going through the pipes has a lot to do with it too.

Re: My 52 GMC Build
Thanks for the feed back Dieselwrencher. It is industrial, coated nylon hose but, it is on my small list of things to redo.

Re: My 52 GMC Build
It'll work for now at least. When you go to build piping, you could rotate the hx35 towards the fender well and just go through there and save a couple bends?

I'll look into that but I don't think there is room with the tire.

Re: My 52 GMC Build
Finally got my fan today. 16" 1918 cfm. H.O. extreme, it is a really high cfm. So mount that on the rad brackets tomorrow and install rad, rad hoses, coolant. Turned over motor today to get oil pressure from sitting for a year. Then a bit of wiring (glow plugs, fuel pump) and If no problems start it up tomorrow!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: My 52 GMC Build
That's an awesome fan man! You can't mistake the sound of an IDI cranking over! One of my favorite sounds from my early diesel days.

Re: My 52 GMC Build
Just loving this build more and more. Love the visual with flexible induction hoses that appear to breath with the motor. If you haven't named this monster yet, I thinking "BANE" would be a good choice for this big beast.

Re: My 52 GMC Build
It sounds awesome! Be careful when you shut the hood and lay on the skinny pedal. With how much rise you're getting out of your charge air hoses, I could see a new dent in your hood.
