Re: 70c10

Finally got tires! Having a few issues with the throttle sticking still, but I think putting another spring will do the trick. Tried everything else... The 1 inch spacer through everything off... Also in a dilemma on rear ends.. I would like to go higher, the turbo 400 and 4.11 is insane on the highway. I HATE it. Looking into a 3.42 or 3.55. Its not a dragster, nor do I abuse the thing. The 4.11 is just killing the drivability. Its more of a cruiser

Re: 70c10

Pretty fun day! Having problems with my gas gauge. It goes nuts. Reproduction sending unit.. Right now it gives mix readings. I am almost bias towards the high reading but just don't know. I took a flash light and looked down into it, I believe its much higher then it's leading me on to believing. Right now it takes 20 bucks to go to town and back.. Doesn't seem right, as I go back roads. But, just the thought leads me to putting a little in it here and there...

For instance, it showed quarter tank, but 2 and half gallons and it went down.. Put 5 gallons and it didn't go up a bit.

Also, when going down the road it'll one minute show way over full. then the next it shows empty.

Sooo annoying more than anything. Checked for leaks and the hose(all brand new), nothing.. Messed around with the sending unit wire on top of the tank, and yeah. Nothing. May have to full the sending unit and get to the bottom of it..

It's just like anything else, if you don't have someone to teach you then you teach yourself.
Trace the ground comming from the sending unit find out where it's grounded, check it's mounting location, if the ground looks good, then test the wire for resistance.
You need a minimum of 2 ground straps on the truck, Cab to frame and Engine to frame, some applications require more, find these ground straps and if they dont exist add them.
If the ground is fine then the next logical step is to check the signal wire to your sending unit, check it for continuity, voltage, and resistance.
If all the wiring checks out then the sending unit could be bad, pull it and check it for continuity, voltage and resistance.
If the sending unit checks out, then check your gauge.
This is standard trouble shooting procedure, process of elimination.

Re: 70c10

I'll figure it out.. I'd bet its the reproduction unit though. Never been right. I though I have been doing complete horrible mpg, 20 dollars everywhere the last few trips. Like 8 mpg tops.. Actually been getting great gas millage! Took a good look in there, and it is slap full lol If I'd added any more, it'd over flowed. When I got tires I knew I was low, so after the last few trips adding here and there, it filled it up.. Good Good.

Gotta love 4.11s lol This is at 55. But, with the gas millage looking better I think I can live with it.. Done a few pulls on the highway today. Pulls strong as can be! The old turbo 400 shifts smooth as butter. When dad got it, he got it from his buddy. Said it is a built tranny. So, hey. I was thinking about swapping gears and all. But, now I dont know.. Everything is flowing so good together right now

Re: 70c10

I am going to be putting a 3.42:1 gear in mine, that combined with an overdrive transmission will make it run just under 2k RPMs on the highway at 80, you could do something similar with your TH400 by going with a 3.08:1 gear.

Its a weekend toy more then anything lol never hailed a thing in its life ! Doesnt even have a bed in it lol With the 4.11 and built motor I am still getting better gas millage then my dads 04 silverdo so all is good! I may throw in a 5 speed one day if the turbo 400 goes. Which, normally I stick to back roads.. Even if I am not driving this. So the gear isnt killing me right now.

Adjusted my valves today.. Needless to say, I've been running on like 7 1/2 cylinders... A rocker on the passenger side (number 4 cyl) was loose as all get it.. Been tapping a little, but didn't realize it was as bad as it was.. Fixed my idle problem and pinging problem LOL

Realized my rocker started loosening up again, and found this.. Lucky enough, nothing got into the oil stream and had a spare laying around. All is good now

Re: 70c10

So, after getting new collectors. Tonight, I was taking my girlfriend home, and when we got to her neighborhood, right before Her drive way I went over a speed bump... Heard something, crack. Thought to myself I heard a little exhaust leak form, then the final speed bump came up, and it let go. The muffler snapped off... On the front of the muffler itself, where it was welded on. It had finally rusted away. Laughed it off, her brother helped me get it free and layed it in my bed.. Although inside, I knew I had a 45 minute drive ahead of me.. Stayed there a bit then headed home. I expected to go deaf on the way home, but honestly I like it better.. Took away the annoying flowmaster drone. May just delete the other and be done with it. In my county, as long as it has pipe its not illegal. So, It's all good lol I hate the ugly tips, anyways. Two birds with one stone!

You can get rid of the "Droning" sound easy enough you just need a pair of Resonators, try these on for size.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/STAINLESS-ST...item53f6c38743
You install those under the cab and they will kill the harmonic resonance before it gets to the mufflers and no more droning noise.

Re: 70c10

I want to just go to a single chamber style muffler or something to that.. These are old and rusty. We just have it patched on and it wont last long at all. These have a great sound at idle and at full throttle, but at cruising speed... Not at all.

Yeah that's what I'm trying to tell you the resonators will take care of that cruising speed droning sound, they also dont restrict exhaust flow so you wont lose any performance if thats what you are worried about.
Most people know little to nothing about resonators, all they do is kill harmonic resonance, they have no muffling effect at all.
The way it works is the frequency at which the sound waves are propagating is very violent and it builds up a sound pressure wave where the sound waves are crashing into each other and you get a horrible deafening sound, now since you have mufflers most of the resulting sound is getting killed before it exits the exhaust system however not all of it, the harmonic resonance is still there trapped in the pipes with no where to go except out, mufflers arent designed to correct harmonic resonance.
Resonators on the other hand eliminate the harmonic resonance and kills the sound wave propagation before it gets to the mufflers and problem solved.

Haven't updated much.. Put a new cap, rotor and wires on it a few days ago. Made a HUGE difference. Also made a video.

Bent a valve.. Awesome. So while we have it apart, cam swap. Going smaller. For more of a torque cam.. More of a Stock style.
