RE: your PM......

Working on cleaning up the drawing in CAD. I'll post it later. But in this pic you can see the fuse block. The relay on the right side of it energizes the three IGN fuses (top 3), and the relay below it is the fuel pump relay.



EDIT - Here you go. Notice in the pic that there is a fuse just above the relay on the fuse block? That is a 3A fuse that is inline of the "12v KEY ON source". Use one or not, this is just how my fuse block was setup already.



***One thing to be VERY SURE OF...... regarding the "12v KEY ON source" wire. Be sure you verify that you have power not only with the key in the RUN position, but also in the CRANK position! When mine would turn over but not fire, that was the problem. I had power with the key on, but not while cranking. Found a wire that had power in both key positions, and it fired right up. Had me scratching my head for a day or two though!

Oops Dennis, I didn't see your post before I hit send. Any basic 30A - 40A Bosch or Hella automotive-type relay will work. Most bone yards will let you pull 'em for free. Or they are under $4-$5 at any parts store.

Bob, do you not have to use a seperate relay for the A/C, elec. fans, fuel pump, etc... I am not going to be using electric fans so that doesnt matter much. I just need a relay for the A/C and fuel pump right? Also, what are the fused circuits on your fuse block for? I dont know why but wiring just bothers the crap out of me.

Well, at long last I have a couple updates. I got the 3.42 gears from Bob today so that will be getting put together sometime in the next week or so. I also got my harness back from wait4meperformance so I am stoked about that. So, I need to get the harness installed and get my fuel tanks out of our dining room and under the truck so I can fire this thing soon. Unfortunately I wont be able to do any of this this weekend because I have the head torn off of a Benz in my garage to do some repairs. Gotta love side work!!! And $800 will be nice to add to the truck fund. So, hopefully next weekend will be VERY productive.

You know I have been wondering about this fuse block and how to wire it in. Got caught up on your thread and bam there it is. I have to tell you guys this, I have a 15 year old and a 19 year old who are in to Facebook, they call this forum my MANBOOK Page. Makes me feel young again Great progress man.

Awesome for you man! Glad to hear someone has the time to take on the side work and pick up that extra money. Make sure and video once it is all fired up. I wanna see it.

Oh man, I just saw this!

Relays are needed for: Ign circuits on the fuse block, fuel pump, and fans.

Since you now have you harness back, you should see large 3 red and 1 orange wires (or is it 3 orange and 1 red?). Either way, they should be labeled. Those are the 3 ignition and 1 battery circuits that go to the fuse block.

The ign relay and fuel pump relay will both use the corresponding wire from the harness as a "switch" wire to turn the relays on. The relays will need 12v going to them, plus a ground, then a wire to the accessory (fuel pump or fuse block), then the switch wire to turn it on.

If you were using electric fans, the relays would need wired differently.

Just follow that drawing I posted earlier and you will be golden. If you have any problems, let me know. Also, I'll PM you my cell so you can call or text me whenever.

Thanks so much for all the help Bob. I really appreciate it. Wiring is my absolute worst enemy. I am not sure why but I cant stand it. Hopefully next week I can make some progress. As soon as I can get this $80,000 oil leaking piece of Euro junk (Benz) out of my way I can get started back on my truck.

OK, back to the truck. I got my harness from wait4me last week and didnt open it until last night. Needless to say I was a little dissapointed. I was really hoping that the harness would be alot smaller in diameter than when I sent it to them. Sooooo, since I want to hide my harness as much as possible and mount the ECM in the truck out of sight I totally removed all the wire loom and molded harness holders so I can lengthen or shorten and
re-route all the wiring so it will look as neat as possible. I always seem to do this to myself. Looks like hours of wiring fun coming up this weekend. YEAH!!!

Josh i'm going to have to do the same thing. the wires arent long enough to reach into the cab. i'm like you and figured it would be alot smaller and easier to work with when they're done with it...

I did ask but they said thed had issues with circuits having too much resistance if they did that. Personally, I work on cars every day for a living and think that is total crap. I understand the labor to do that would be ALOT and expensive. But they could have just told me they dont offer that service. Either way, I think they did a great job on the harness but I think I just misunderstood how the harness would turn out. For anyone else doing this and want to mount the ECU in the truck, use a F-Body harness and have them change the plugs on the injectors. The F-Body harness comes off the engine in the passengers rear area by the head and has plenty of room to mount the ECU inside the cab.

How much are you guys spending at Wait 4 me for the harness? Do they actually use the orignal wires or add all new ones? I would think it would cost more to run wires long enough to go inside the cab. What is the "F" body harness you are laking about? thanks
