Re: 67 Shortwide Resto
Thanks 67cheby and wicky,
I started doing the final wet sand today with the 500 Grit wet and its sanding out as smoothe as a babys butt. I found a dent I missed in the passenger side fender. I was a little pissed but im glad i found it so I can fix it before I paint it. As dark as this thing is going to be it would have stuck out like a soar thumb. I gave my Son the day off being he sprayed the whole thing yesterday while I watched the air hose and mixed the paint. That UPOL Primer sealer is some really thick stuff. I mixed it 4 parts paint, 1 part Hardner and 2 parts Reducer. I still think it might have been a little to thick to shoot as sealer. I think I will reduce it 2.5 next time. This is just good info to anyone using this product. Thanks again, JRBECK64 |

Re: 67 Shortwide Resto
I was going to shoot paint this morning in the interior and the bed but what I didnt take into account for was a leaky sprinkler pipe in the front yard and having to dig up half of the front yard to find it so i didn't get my prep work done for painting today. Im leaving for Whidbey Island tomorrow for a Friends 25 Wedding Vow Renewal so It looks like the paint will waite till next weekend. I cant believe that all this trivial stuff gets in the way of the real important work like restoring this 67 Pickup. For all of you who have been following I appriciate your patients being this truck is taking forever to build. What I have found is that because of the slower pace I have been finding the things that I normally steam roll past and that is mostly body work issues. This is by far the flattest bodywork I have done to this point. I guess it all comes down to patients and the willingness to fix the things you find as you go along even if it means sanding and getting the bodywork hammer and the dolly out even when its ready to paint. Anyway Im looking forward to going to Whidbey Island to see how much its changed because I was stationed there in the early to mid 80's in the Navy. Seems like it was just yesterday.

Re: 67 Shortwide Resto
Well We finally got the interior painted and Im really happy with how it turned out. The weather gods were shining on us and it was a perfect 70 degrees to shoot the paint. The paint was flowing and its really flat. No runs to deal with and Now Im looking forward to getting the Base Coat Clear Coat shot. Here are a few pictures of the paint.

Re: 67 Shortwide Resto
Thanks, I cant waite to get the outside done and Im thinking about painting the top of the cab silver but dont know how to break the blue. Im thinking about doing an opposite pinstripe. Silver on the Blue and Blue on the Silver. trying to figure out how to do it and make it look right. Im not sure if I want blue all the way from the lower molding all the way to the top. Sure would make it a lot more difficult.

Re: 67 Shortwide Resto
First of all let me just ask, are you sure adoption is out of the question? Man that looks awesome. Have you thought about Two parallel wide Camaro strips down the hood and across the Roof and tailgate. Then outline them with thin stripes. You could then Turn around and do the rocker panels and lower quarter panels in a silver with a thin pinstrip above that. Just a thought. Anyway once again you have made my eyes water with joy.... nice job man.

Thanks for the kind words. Looks like one more day of Sanding and Prep work for the shop and then we are shooting the Base coat on Sunday then the Clear on Monday. This has been one long drawn out task and My Eyes will water Monday when its shining with Clear Coat. I havent thought about the Racing Stripes but this sounds like something you should do and let me watch you restore one of these old beauties. I was at the Paint Shop where I buy my paint today and when I was walking out there was a really nice 68 GMC Long Fleet setting there and it was White and Green. It was almost like an omen because I needed to see where the break in color was on the back of the cab and there it was. I dont know if you have read my previous posts but I am going to do an Opposite Pinstripe across the back of the cab to split the color because this truck didnt have a Crome Molding on the back of the Cab. Anyway My Wife is going to do the Pinstripe using Pull Away Tape so I will take some pictures as we are doing this in case anyone wants to see how we are going to tape off the truck for the pinstripes. Wow that was novel. Thanks again for the Kind Words. JRBECK64 |

Re: 67 Shortwide Resto
Its clear coated and with no runs, drips or errors!!! My Son Ian really out did himself shooting the clear today (KUDO'S to Ian). I am really liking the color choice on the Patriot Blue, When my Son started shooting the clear the blue came to life. Well here are a few pictures of the clear coat.
JRBECK64 Oh yeah I forgot to mention that last night we wrinkled the paint on the hood so we need to sand it and re shoot the hood with color then Clear it so I didnt forget the hood in the picture. I will post it when its done right. |

Re: 67 Shortwide Resto
pulled the parts of the truck out in the sunlight today and thought I would post a few more pictures of it in the sunlight. We pulled the frame into the shop today to get it ready to set the cab and the bed down on it soon. We also did a major clean up of the shop today (I cant believe how dirty it gets from overspray). Here are the pictures.

Re: 67 Shortwide Resto
Have you ever had one of those days that you should have stayed in bed and not touched the paint gun. This was one of those days and I didnt run the clear, I avalanched it. I have some serious sanding to do and im praying that I dont break through the clear into the paint because if that happens it means starting over. I will post a few pics of the major runs.
