Thanks man!
Found 'em on Ebay a few months (i think) ago. Bought them like that with the new american racing caps for $400! I thought it was a steal! They are restored or refurbished wheels. Being that way made 'em a little harder to balance them (they have a crapload of glue on weights on them), but they're killer and roll nice down the road! The people that restored them painted the insides a plain industrial gray color, but it actually looks pretty good like that, I may leave 'em that way.

Re: Slick Copper's Build Thread

Had an awesome day yesterday! Took my wife's dad out for a late father's day lunch and went bowling where I lost every game, but it was good fun. Then my wife and I bought some fireworks (they legalized us being able to buy the big ones that go up in the air this year ) and we headed home.

Worked on the truck, fixed one of my exhaust leaks. The main one that was blowing up the bolt hole of the intake/exhaust combo and right onto the bottom of the carburator. Fired it up. Starts fine and idles fine but still can't rev it up even when cold or warmed up. I played with the timing and tweaked the carb a little and got it to where it sounded the best. But still was rough and even backfiring still when trying to rev up. Wouldn't get much above 2000 rpms when easily giving it gas. Funny thing was, I unhooked the vacuum advance and plugged it up to put the timing light on it and it smoothed out. Got in the cab and pushed the gas pedal and it revved right up. I can even mash it down! So I left it like that and drove it down the road! Ran fine, just can't floor it real hard. I guess'd cause no vacuum advance.

I saw this problem somewhere else on here someone had the same problem, guess I'm going to have to research. But it's drivable this way.
Ran inside and made my wife get off the phone with her mom and we drove it down the road to the local shell station for a fill up and came back home. Man was it great to be behind the wheel of ole Copper again!

Re: Slick Copper's Build Thread

Looks good! And congrats on getting it running better. Might be too much initial advance. Maybe distributor is off a tooth? Or springs too soft allowing mechanical advance to come in too soon?

Yeah, but it's supposed to be brand new. Sad isn't it? Guess I could try a new one and if that doesn't work maybe I'll try rotating the distributor one tooth see if that helps. But still fun drivin' it around a lil. Wife and I went out for icecream a few hours ago in it!

Re: Slick Copper's Build Thread

Looking good man!

OCD- Obsessive Compulsive Disorder- a habit like washing hands 20 times before you think they are clean or turning on and off a light switch 10 times until you can feel comfortable that it's off

I'm thinking he meant ADD where people have a hard time finishing one task before moving on to another...like getting one part of a truck finished before being distracted with something else you want to change.

NOS= New Old Stock It's old Chevy stock that's brand new in the box still. Or can also include newer parts that are now discontinued. Or....on ebay can mean new parts you can still get from the dealership but people don't realize it and pay twice or three times what it costs to buy from the dealer

Re: Slick Copper's Build Thread

Hey VA72C10 it looks like you brushed up on disorders I definately have ADD but I may be using OCD out of context a litlle. Just meant that now I'm going to stew over how my truck would look with a set of those wheels and spend entirely too much time looking for a set before I get back on track and re-focus

The pictures of ole Copper in the grass look sweet

Re: Slick Copper's Build Thread

Thanks Everyone! And thanks for clearing that up for me VA72C10!

Yeah John going to go with the chrome bumper that is styled like my front. I guess that's the "sport bumper". From LMC.....

Name: 0020.jpg
Views: 808
Size: 111.7 KB
Also from the looks of it that hitch is really heavy duty, should pull whatever you'd want. Not sure of the class, it may say on it, I'll have to look. PO put it on. Looks like he used my truck as a tow vehicle. He even wired in that 6 or 7 pin trailer wiring hook up.

Long term....are you ready? When we get our house and my garage built (shooting for spring next year) after the garage is set up, it'll be a tear down, rebuild, and paint.
Plan to keep the original 250 inline and 350 tranny. May get a new tranny just so I don't have any worries. Especially with the engine rebuilt. Engine will get complete new pistons, rings, cam, and all seals, bearings, and gaskets. Along with Offy intake, Edelbrock 500 cfm carb, slightly bigger cam, headers, and repaint and Offy valve cover and matching side plates.

Body will be probably like it is, just fix all of the small dents and scratches and repaint in a nice burnt orange/coppery kinda of color still to be determined. Oh, and of course the white top. Also in that theme add the white tailgate lettering decals. Same side mirrors, chevrolet letters on the hood, grille trim, front bumper, headlight bezels, and any other trim that are on it. Not sure if I want the 67-68 side trim or tailgate trim yet. I do like it though. And of course my AR tubines, maybe painted inbetween the spokes a different color. Still to decide on that.

Interior will be painted completely on the inside the same as outside with gray dash pad, visors (hard to find), bench seat, steering wheel, door panels, and carpet. Original style gauges redone into white face (why I have the white Sunpro tach). The radio and gauges will be matching blue led lit. New 67 glove box emblem. Updated stereo (sorry rick, probably gonna be cuttin' the dash), with new speakers and small amp and sub. Probably gonna build some kind of drink holder that goes at the bottom and hides some of the heater box. Chrome dome lamp. New rearview mirror, maybe a chrome bowtie one! Steering wheel to either be replaced or resized to 15". The later is my choice I like how my horn button is styled like my wheels.

Other things will be.....Rear mount gas tank, glass pack muffler(s) with side exit before the rear tire, 2/4 drop (or bagged depending on $$), front and rear sway bars, completely updated lighting led's everywhere and the euro headlights, clear front markers (amber led bulbs), led tailights or bulbs. Also thinking of bed carpet with toneau cover, but not sure yet. I'm sure there's more that I can't think of. Oh, thinking of lowering the fender emblems some to make them level with the top of the wheel well. Anyone seen that before?

ANYWAY....hope that gives you all a vision like the one I have. Sorry for the BOOK!!! And keep in mind this may alter a bit with time, and some things may get done here and there before or after rebuild.

Re: Slick Copper's Build Thread

Here's a couple OLD pics. A little history if you will. One is my first vehicle and beloved '70 C/10 lwb getting ready to go to prom. This is the truck that started my love affair with the 67-72's. At this point it needed a few minor things and paint. Too bad some idiot pulled out in front of me later that year and totaled it. 2002. The other is me practicing my Luke Duke on my buddy's ole '70 charger. You can see why I love those turbine wheels so much now!

No, there's a lighter there. Don't think it works though, seems to be stuck to the in position. Gonna have to fix that. I don't smoke either, but still want to keep it for the 12v access and if a friend needed a light. Of course they're NOT smoking in my vehicle! So what'd u think of the plans?

If you know where Lexinngton is (central KY) It's about 30 min east of there. Looks like it'd take me about 2 hours to get to Jellico via I-75 from my house, and that's right to the state line. Some weekend when we're both not doing anything we should get a KY/TN meet together somewhere.
But you should see how bad the clearcoat is pealing. And I found Bondo on the bed rails today!!! Looks like the PO wasn't the greatest body man in the world. Can't wait to redo it, but it can wait, just wanna enjoy driving it. And trust me whatever you do, don't get rid of that truck! You'll regret it, if any thing get ya something else, and rebuild it when you can.

But on the other hand, the clear fuel filter was/is very handy letting me see that I'm getting fuel. Especially when I was having fuel problems before.
Fram sells a 3/8" in & out plastic fuel filter that you can see the gas level through that will not chip, shatter or leak like the glass ones can. Put it away from the exhaust manifold so it won't melt or heat up the fuel. The Fram part number is G3 and runs about $4.

I ran the glass ones when they first came out and had every problem you can think of with them. They just aren't worth the risk of fire when there is a durable and cheap alternative like the G3 filter.

Thanks, but I'm running 5/16 lines. Going to need that size. Do they make them in 5/16? May just use my pre pump filter and in carb filter and delete the glass one.
