Re: Project '54 5W Chevy HELP PLEASE!!
Haven't been on in quite a while and it was interesting reading through your work. Looks like you're making great progress, I'm envious!
Keep up the good work, can't wait to see pics of the finished project (if we ever completely finish). Take care, Jon

Re: Project '54 5W Chevy HELP PLEASE!!
I'm throwing the idea around about scrapping the interior/wheels and stereo for now and just drive the thing ASAP. My dd is getting tired with 166k miles on it. I hope to start on it after the truck is finished, if they ever are?

Here's a couple of shots of the speaker box/amp housing. The 6X9's will sit to the left/right of the 10's.

Re: Project '54 5W Chevy HELP PLEASE!!
i know you are already doing this, but rear speakers in a regular cab truck are useless IMHO. i unhooked mine in my truck, and never missed them.

Re: Project '54 5W Chevy HELP PLEASE!!
The dilema I have is where else to put them. I refuse to cut my doors and the highs are behind the dash grill. I want a full sound range. The professionals I've talked to said they'd be good there. They also mentioned the small amount of cab space and having plenty of sound for the truck.

Re: Project '54 5W Chevy HELP PLEASE!!
you will hear them, but the sound will be muffled. if you could, i would make or have made some pods to hold some mids in the kick panels. if you can't make that work, then put them back there.
it is more about the quality of the sound, and not just the volume. the subwoofers are fine back there, it is putting the mids back there that i would strongly advise against if possible.

Re: Project '54 5W Chevy HELP PLEASE!!
Maybe mounting them above the sub box pointing up, kinda where a head rest would be? Maybe that would be too loud?

The cab is off of the truck for the last time. The underside will be undercoated shortly. It should be sealed in black soon.

Re: Project '54 5W Chevy HELP PLEASE!!
i was wondering if you want the ceiling allso stock , you could make speakerpods in both front upper corners just above the a pillars and put the same upholstering on there as you do the ceiling (sorry forgot the correct english word for it ) if you use fabric you might not even need the speakers to stick through and mount a set of say 5 inch mids in there , there verry close to youre ears so they dont need to be realy loud

Daniel, that looks like gloss black is it?
I think I like that better than satin black!

Yup, the chassis will be gloss black. I haven't decided on the inner fenders yet. Eveything else will be GM Polo green.

Here's some shots of the chassis reassembled with motor/trans/fuel tank and suspension sitting on 14" front 15" rear rally wheels.
Paul's been doing side work, so no paint or undercoating yet

Re: Project '54 5W Chevy HELP PLEASE!!
Daniel,
I was reading thru your build again and wondering how you used the the stock turn down handles with the bear claw latches? Maybe I missed it but is there something special that can be bought to make this work or did you need to fab up something? Looks like you will have a great truck on your hands when done

Re: Project '54 5W Chevy HELP PLEASE!!
This should explain it better than I can:
http://www.rodandcustommagazine.com/...latch_install/ Let me know if you have any other ?'s. I believe the latches will work with most cars/trucks with a little modification.

Re: Project '54 5W Chevy HELP PLEASE!!
Daniel, thanks for the link, very clean insteal on those latches.
But what am wondering is how you hooked up the stock outside turn down door handle to work with the bear claws? I want to run the stock handles on my 49 and want to rid itself of those god awful stock latches.
