Re: My 70 2wd Project begins!
I have worked it out to keep the Blazer for now anyway, but I am going to have to cut out some of the "good stuff." So for starters the LS motor and tranny is going and will be replaced with a SBC. I listed all the parts in the for sale section. I asking $5500 for it all. Let me know what you think. Here what I am selling.
Engine: 6.0 LQ9 out of a 2003 Yukon Denali XL. Approx 20K miles. Complete engine. I have replaced the oil pan with one from an F-Body so no clearance issues. Transmission: 4L65e out of a 2003 AWD Yukon Denail XL. I had the output shaft and rear cone replaced with one from a 2wd. I had reputable Transmission shop replace the shaft and check out the tranny and he said it look really good. Wiring Harness, computer and DPW: The factory wiring harness was reworked by Spearteach and is labeled for easy installation. Factory computer that came with motor and tranny from Yukon. I have the drive-by-wire pedal and wiring as well. Headers: Headers are new in box from Doug Thorley Header. Custom built for chevy trucks. Here is how they describe them. The headers come with all necessary bolts, gaskets and reducers. All headers are pre-polished before coating. The standard finish is ceramic coating. All headers are made from 14ga. tubing and 3/8" flanges. Every header is pressure tested on site for leaks. These headers were developed using the Classic performance products motor mount/cross member system but they have been tested on a trucks equipped with Early classic enterprises mounts. I am including the lokar dipstick they recommend as well as the MSD Wires they recommend. March Pulley Kit : It is recommended that you move the AC compressor to the top and there are only a few ways to do this. I ordered an entire pulley kit for an LS motor from March. It retails for $2200. It is new in box. Part number 20085. It have a Crank pulley off of a LS motor from a |

Re: My 70 2wd Project begins!
Few updates. I am working hard to get it in primer, back together and on the road. My biggest hold up was hinges, but they are finally finished. They actually work really well. Pop the hood and it goes up like a new car. The shocks are a little stiff, but can be changed out if they don't weaken with time. Here it is, obviously not at ride height...

Re: My 70 2wd Project begins!
Love the hinges. I didn't know sasche rod shop made them with the little shocks. Thats pretty sweet. Is there much side to side movement with the hood and those hinges? I remember reading that they are great hinges but with a heavier hood like our trucks it has a little more than wanted side to side movement. I hope that isn't the case because they just look sick. Sweet job on all the sheetmetal work in the engine bay. You definately are building a sweet truck

Re: My 70 2wd Project begins!
Sorry for the lack of description. Those WERE sasche rod shop hinges. We had to basically rebuild them to work and the shock is something we added as well. It took several tries but we ended up with a pretty cool hinge. I need to get the specs from what we did incase someone else wants to modify a pair to work.

Re: My 70 2wd Project begins!
Here is my plan - I will be back in the shop next week and I really want to video the hood/hinges in action. Then i will take the hinges apart and take the measurements/photos needed to reproduce. I am convinced that with the right shock these would work really well.

Re: My 70 2wd Project begins!
Yes the shock i have now is a little stiff. It is cool because it lifts the hood with ease and holds the hood up, but you have to really push to bring it down. The shock just under this one was too weak. I am going to get the exact specs on the shocks and see if i can order something between the two. We did not have that many choices at the local shop.

Re: My 70 2wd Project begins!
Here is a close up of the hinges off. Unfortunately when I went to video the hinges in action my body guy already had them off. I can measure the brackets for you guys if you want to try to reproduce or I can have you a set made when I have mine remade. As you can see in the pics the hood bracket has 2 sets of holes and you only need one.

Re: My 70 2wd Project begins!
I brought the Blazer home after a disappointing experience with my paint guy and so I am doing some of the rough work myself. I enlisted the help of a buddy of mine who has some body work experience. We were able to get a few things done and a few more started. What do you think? The undercoating is U-Pol Raptor bedliner...great stuff! The firewall is finally taking shape as well.

Looks great! Now I might be confused... (well I am confused) but I mean about your Blazer weren't you working on selling it awhile back? If so did you decide to keep it?
