Re: Project: white knight 1967 step
You might have to put the auto in and leave the 6 when the daughter takes over the ride Great build and thats a great statement on the quality of the truck when a 15 year old girl is behind the wheel dreaming.

Re: Project: white knight 1967 step
Just thought i'd update . Got the wood bed at the house and im testing stains . hurricane Ike set me back pretty good . I'll get some Camaro progress pics up also as it has gotton a little farther along also . Looking to order the bed sprips and bolt kit monday and get the bed together . $1850 in tree work set me back a bit , but insurance should reimburse me eventually .

Re: Project: white knight 1967 step
Did you go with oak for the wood? Looks really good with the right stain and finish.
Are you getting the strips and bolts from Mar K? Mar K use to have a good writeup on finishes and how well they standup in the weather. Well worth reading. Glad to hear you are getting to work on it again.

Here are the bed wood pictures . This took me about 10 days and lots of sanding . The strips are at the body shop being painted as we speak . I'll be pulling the old 3 speed tomorrow and starting the auto and van tilt install . Im taking picks of the swap .[IMG][/IMG]

Re: Project: white knight 1967 step
I love the bed wood, but question??? Why is the wood so much darker in the bottom picture? Is that the bottom of the wood? If it is, what did you put on it?

Re: Project: white knight 1967 step
The last picture is of the bottom of the wood . I painted it gloss black before the varnish/clear coat . That is the way they showed it on Mar-K's web site .

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! A lot of work, but really looks great.
Can't wait to see it installed. What color on the strips? Hope things go well with the auto install. Are you leaving the six in?

Re: Project: white knight 1967 step
Thanks , the strips are to be white , same color as the body . The 6'er is stayin' for now and the trans is hung in the hole . That 3 speed crossmember was never mean't to be removed and the more i tear into this truck the more i think it is 90,xxx original miles . Seems like nothing had ever been apart , clutch was to the rivets , u-joint u-bolts fought all the way out . Getting there though .

Re: Project: white knight 1967 step
Do you have the shifter pivot bracket that goes on the frame for the shift linkage ?
It has a little nylon bushing that goes in it too.

Re: Project: white knight 1967 step
I had 2 sets of factory linkage and 2 van columns + 3 intermidiate shafts of different sizes . I think the Th 350 sits back further when behind a 250 . Looks like i will have to move it forward when the 350 goes in . Speedo cable was short . Starter won't work . Need a new trans yoke ( hopefully i woun't need to shorten the shaft or a V8 may get put in alot quicker ) . Conversion actually went really well . The steering shaft on my truck was 1pc. and didn't have a middle shaft . Mine must be an early 67' or something . I took the intermidiate shaft from a late 70's truck and the flex coupling from a motor home and was able to make it work . Still have to run the trans lines .
Still not sure what steering wheel to go with . Choices are a 70's 4 spoke Camaro , Leather Caviler 3 spoke , Factory 70's truck or a Grant GT . Also got the converter back in the Luv for this week end . Got a race saturday . So it has been transmission week here in Baytown with a couple of breaks for contractor bids here and there . My adjuster is coming out monday to estimate the damages finally . Hopefully he'll cut me a check so i can get this mess fixed back like it was before the storm .

Re: Project: white knight 1967 step
I am remembering (means "take it with a grain of salt") that most factory 3 speeds were the same length as 350 autos. I thought you should be able to bolt it in and re-use the driveshaft as is.
I know some were alot shorter, maybe that is what you had. I also thought the yoke interchanged also.??????? Seems like you got real "lucky" on this with all the potential for the replaced parts to fit with out modifying them. column, starter yoke, driveshaft.............. But least those "packrat tendencies" are paying off by having the parts needed to make it work. I vote for the 70's camaro wheel, always liked them. How'd the luv do? At least you're getting some fun in your life. Matt and I have been thinking of putting together something for the strip. Originally it was my old 68 Barracuda big block, or a 74 duster we have, but recently acquired a 67 Chev pickup with a 500 cid Cadillac in it. I wish we could focus for at least long enough to get one project done. Good luck with the adjuster. I hope he is VERY fair with you. Lee

Re: Project: white knight 1967 step
Dad, you are forgetting that some of the yokes are like 10 spline & some are like a TH350 IIRC
As for the length, I think its prolly gonna wind up being that the 3ott is shorter than the TH350 Raland, I dont know what it costs where you are, but here we have a guy that will cut, balance, & change yokes real reasonable I vote keeping the 6 in it just cuz you already have a luv to go fast in Just my |

Re: Project: white knight 1967 step
That's it . It is like 10 spline . I like the six also . Just need the ever elusive power steering brackets .
Made 3 passes in the luv tonight on drag radials . Spun all three times . We will see tommorow with some good track prep .

Re: Project: white knight 1967 step
Just a quick update . Bed wood is installed .[IMG][/IMG]
And i got the trans and steering column in . I have run into a couple of problems that are not easiliy over come . The drive shaft is approx. 4" to long . i Got the correct yoke from the local salvage yard , but i think the shaft will be correct in the V8 position . I put a 350 flywheel on the 6 cause i was told it would work . Well i now can't find the correct starter . At this point i think i'll pull the 6 and put a V8 in it so i don't have to cut the drive shaft and mess with the starter . I have most of the parts to do it and will think it over the next couple of days .
