Now that is a nice clean engine and tranny! What kind of paint did you use on the trans? Or is it just raw? I can't tell for sure by the picture but it kind of looks like an aluminum paint....

It is an aluminum paint used at the trans shop called Goodson ALB-1. They gave me some for touch ups.

Re: MisterE72's Build thread: Too much Homework

isn't 3 degrees a good angle for the engine? I've heard that but don't quote me.

Here is a mount that some 4x4 guys run, it should allow you to keep those nice headers

Re: MisterE72's Build thread: Too much Homework

3 degrees is what it should be at, just check your pinioin on your diff and match it, and that does look like the right angle. angle finder from home depot, around 15 dollars, worth every penny

Re: MisterE72's Build thread: Too much Homework

The carb flange is offset by 3-4 degrees, I believe, so it should be close to 0 at the flange (assuming the chassis is level and on level ground).
I also tried camaro headers trying to save money. Mistake #362. I had to heavily modify the mounts. I since have tossed them in the scap pile as they were just too damn ugly. I have since gone to a Gen III swap.
Looks amazing Mister. Keep up the good work.
BTW, I have a 3rd addition to be arriving on Dec. 14! 3 under 3! I really need a TV

Congratulations on baby #3. Don't let anyone tell you its 3x harder than having just 1. Its actually exponentially harder: Maybe 6X. Don't bother getting a 60 inch LCD TV now, you ain't gonna' have much time to watch it. Congratulations.

I had a 1 inch aluminum spacer made the tranny mount. I'm not sure if its enough to correct the tilt..I haven't got the angle finder yet. It does look better though. What do you think?

I hear ya there...

you have to fall back into a zone defense now.. no more man-to-man coverage while at the mall, store, park, zoo etc...!!!!!

Now that's funny!

Spacer looks good! Nice clean work. Make sure the driveline doesn't contact crossmember hoop at lowest point of travel.

It looks like I have a good 2 inches of space but I still have no body on the frame. I have to get a shotened driveline, so I may just get one with a smaller diameter but thicker walls.

Re: MisterE72's Build thread: Too much Homework

Greetings folks. We got some work done on the firewall today. We should be done with the welding tomorrow. My neighbor Isaiah is doing the welding. I'm not sure if I want to have him fill in the gutter looking area on the fire wall. Looks like a lot of work. I know project sweet pea has it and it looks ..well sweet. Check it out.

Re: MisterE72's Build thread: Too much Homework

Greetings all, More progress to report: The metalwork on the firewall is almost complete. All the unnecessary holes have been filled and the gutter is started. We should have all the metal work done tomorrow. My neighbor Isaiah worked on it for 7 hours. The guy is a welding stud. Check it out.

Re: MisterE72's Build thread: Too much Homework

Greetings all. The firewall gutter is no more. Isaiah came through yesterday and finished it up. He also added a filler piece on the right side to give her some symmetry. It looks like the body guy is going to have to finish snoothing it out from here. Check it out.

Re: MisterE72's Build thread: Too much Homework

Just decided to check on your build thread after having not looked at it for several months and noticed you've got the same engine angle issue as I do. Are you using a CPP crossmember? I've got the CPP crossmember with ECE stands and I've got about the same angle as you do (did). Was gonna go the spacer route myself and thought I'd check to see if you ever decided if that solved your problem.

The project's looking great!

Brent

Hi Brent, I am using a CPP crossmember. It sits about 1 inch lower than the stock crossmember. I put the one inch spacer, but i'm not quite at 3-4 degrees yet. Put it on the back burner for now.

I appreciate your input and suggestions. Your 67 is one sweet ride too. I'll see what I can do about getting you those suspension parts.

Re: MisterE72's Build thread: Too much Homework

This is an awesome build Mister E !!, I have spent many hours in the last month checking out posts and builds on this forum and am in complete awe!!.

I have been searching for the right truck to rebuild with little luck, I thought I knew what a wanted to do, but after my hours spent on this forum it’s all up in the air now…..

I’ve looked at over a dozen trucks but yet to find the right one, just got back from a 6 hour drive looking at one I saw on eBay, no joy there. I was just outside talking with a neighbor that has a 72 SWB stepside stored at his parent’s house for sale. I’m looking all over Texas and neighbor 3 doors down might have what I’m looking for!!

If karma is real, I might have to change my avatar soon…..

Rick
