Re: Jojo's '70 Stepper
thats what i did when i was in high school/college when it was my daily driver but 2 weeks before i graduated, the rear end burned up on me and it was toast.
i have a new car so that gets me around which lets me do everything at once on the truck. its going to be my show, weekend, and 'looks like a good day' driver. i hope to have it going by mid summer. you truck is coming along quite well, looks like you got most of the cancer out already.

I did what I think is a pretty cool gas filler for the new tank. I'll post some more pics hopefully by next weekend after I finish the drivers side rust repairs and hang the doors and fenders.

Re: Jojo's '70 Stepper
I've been a little lazy to post pics, but I actually re-assembled everything and drove the truck all over the place today!
I'm really happy with the gas tank install and my filler neck location. Up next, cab corners, finishing the passenger side kick panel, seam sealer and covering the floor (bedliner or something) then carpet. Then install glass and weather stripping in the doors. Pics later but it's starting to look good..

Re: Jojo's '70 Stepper
Here we go:
I installed one of those chrome gas door covers inside the bed. And used a filler neck from a dodge dakota, hoses from a ford explorer (had to cut and weld and bend to fit) (junk yard finds), the explorer hoses were the only thing that fit the filler on the tank (1 1/2" I think) First marked the hole for the gas door. Then cut and drilled the holes for the nuts (saved the hole I cut for a patch panel in case we decide to change my mind later) Weld in the nuts (that way we can fasten the gas door to the bed, but remove later if needed) Weld in two threaded rods to mount the filler neck to Drilled matching holes in the filler neck and mounted the filler neck with washers and nuts.

Here's some more pics of the gas filler and some day light pics of the truck.
I forgot to mention that I installed the new front fenders.

Re: Jojo's '70 Stepper
They aren't lined up that great right now.
The PO backed up into something and tore off the original front bumper, causing the radiator support and inner fenders to bend some. So the grill, fenders and bumper are all off alignment. My buddy across the street has a guy who will fix the frame for me for free (maybe a six pack of diet coke or something is enough payment), then everything should line up better. I'm just waiting on his availablity.

Re: Jojo's '70 Stepper
Thanks Mitch, I really struggled with deciding what to do withe the filler. Originally I was gonna do the side marker thing but I couldn't do it without it feeling cheap.
No real updates, except I drove the truck up to New Braunfels, TX on Mothers day to visit my Momma, which is about 50 minute drive each way. The truck drove great and I saw few dudes running our trucks, all of them waved or nodded along the way. No pics of the truck but here's some pics from the office (my first printing press and some things I have hanged on the wall) Near Future plans (as I get money) 1. finish the cab floor 2. redo the bed floor probably with a large enough metal plate. I think I decided I don't want wood but budget will dictate 3. somehow fix the bent framehorns up front.

Re: Jojo's '70 Stepper
those mystery holes on the door were for the custom emblem. your doors came offa 67 so the custom emblem is on the door. i have the exact same jack. mine works good. how about yours

Re: Jojo's '70 Stepper
Thanks man! I haven't done much in the past few months. But, I might get motivated again!

I love the jack, I recently saw some guys trying to jack up a toyota truck the other day, they were using one of those stock jacks.. It took them at least 40 minutes to get the tire off the ground! Makes me want to take that big jack with me on the road. ![]()

Re: Jojo's '70 Stepper
They sell a smaller version of that jack that you can take with you. I have one. The reason I don't have the stock jack for my truck anymore, is that my dad was replacing a flat once, and the stock jack slipped, and the rear bumper hit hit him in the head. Hard. After the tire was replaced, he hurled the jack off into a field in anger, and bought one of the smaller shop-style jacks and put it in the truck.

I I've lost count on how many things that I no longer own, no thanks to those fits of anger that you just mentioned.

Re: Jojo's '70 Stepper
Just a quick update. The only thing I've been doing with the truck is driving it.
It looks like the next big thing on my to do list is to get a vintage air purchased and installed. I know that may seam like I should be working on other parts of the truck but I need to use the truck as a driver for work (sales type job so I can't be all sweaty). I have a 7 week plan to save the money to buy the set-up. Lucky for me (or not) it will still be hot as hell here in san antonio by then. Beyond that I have a small wish list: 1. Put down a metal plate in the bed 2. Get some shoulder strap seat belts 3. Bend the front part of the frame back to stock I 'could' be done with the truck by now, but I'm saving to buy a house next year so all my extra money is going into savings... It's kinda tempting to just buy what I need to finish but I guess I gotta keep my priorities in order.
