Thanks guys, here's a couple more as promised with the buffing done and you can kind of see the frame and dropmember in silver.

Re: Starting to start starting a C4 conversion on my 84 SWB GMC
The engine is in! My goal was to get the firewall finished by the end of Feb, which we did so that the engine and trans could go back in. Along with the front suspension components of course. I needed the truck to role again so that I could trailer it to my next house. We just moved to another house what a pain. As soon as I got the truck in the new garage I got a call from a guy that wanted the Corvette wheels. I put the truck back on jack stands and sold the wheels that night. I'm lookin for 22's now.

Wow that firewall and front frame looks great! What are your plans for the rest of the outside of the truck?

Re: Starting to start starting a C4 conversion on my 84 SWB GMC
Well my plans change all the time, I was planning to paint the bottom half of the truck black and keep the top red but Smashingchuck pointed out that a light color on the bottom will help the truck look as low as it will be. So then I thought about just painting the whole truck red again but that just doesn't seem right. This truck has always had so much character in my opinion so I don't want to paint it one solid color. Luckily I don't have the money to paint the truck right now so I have time to keep thinking about it. Soon I will be working on the rear air bag brackets and finishing the bed.

Re: Starting to start starting a C4 conversion on my 84 SWB GMC
for such a beauty a single color wouldn´t be enough i think but wild graphiks won´t do it too! you may choose 2 tones divided by some nice pinstripes or a subtle graphik around the wasteline maybe checkered stripes or flames!
I´d love some of that on my truck in combination with silver metallic for a cool high quality hotrod look! Volker

Re: Starting to start starting a C4 conversion on my 84 SWB GMC
Well I'm finally starting to live up to my signature line, I've got 22's! Just bought these wheels from a guy on Craigslist. Turns out he lives 5 miles away from me and he brought the wheels to me so I could check the fit. Since I have the Corvette bolt pattern I've been looking at 22" BMW 7 series take-offs, they have the same bolt pattern and BMW's tend to have decent back spacing. Well I really lucked out since these wheels are 22X10 fronts and 22x12 rears with a 6 inch lip! This is a deeper wheel than you usually find on BMWs. I couldn't have asked for a better fit even if I was ordering them new. Now the rims aren't perfect they do have some wear and tear on them, mostly the silver paint on the centers just has some dings from rocks or whatever. I will likely repaint the centers with the silver we are using on my frame.

I've been working on my rear airbag brackets, just finished welding up both sides. Once I get tires the truck is a roller again and this time on bags!

Re: Starting to start starting a C4 conversion on my 84 SWB GMC
Thanks guys! I'm getting excited, I know there is a lot to do still but it is getting closer. I'm currently trying to find reasonably priced 305/30/22 rear tires but that is not easy. This weekend I'm performing a little surgery on the trans tunnel to get the proper engine angle.

Re: Starting to start starting a C4 conversion on my 84 SWB GMC
Glad to see this moving along. Is the paint as good as it looks in the pics? It may be a little dated, but really looks good with the wheels. Kinda fits with the engine, IMO.

Re: Starting to start starting a C4 conversion on my 84 SWB GMC
The paint is in pretty good shape, just a few places need minor paint repair on the red. All of the candy color graphics are in good shape. My brother and now my dad are in favor of me keeping the graphics. Not having the money for a full paint job helps me agree with them. But also, a big part of the personality of this truck has been the graphics, I think I would really miss them if the truck was one solid color. So for now the graphics stay.

Are you going to be able to turn those front 22x10's without hitting the fenders?

Re: Starting to start starting a C4 conversion on my 84 SWB GMC
I sure hope so, I've never done this before so I'm no expert on fitment. I really like the look of the back spacing on these and they seem to turn plenty without a tire on the rim. I'll have to test it again when I get rubber.

Re: Starting to start starting a C4 conversion on my 84 SWB GMC
I've made a fair amount of progress on things that don't photograph well. Like soldering all the wiring back together since it all had to get routed differently now that the firewall isn't Swiss cheese. I put the 0 gauge power wire back in place to get power from the new battery to the distribution block in my center console area. Now my stereo works again, that really made the truck come alive again. I bought an aftermarket A/C evaporator and condenser and now I'm purchasing the rest of the parts to get my A/C completed. I bought and installed a new Be Cool radiator and aluminum fan shroud. The engine is completely wired minus a vacuum line and plugging in the spark plug wires. I'm trying to figure out what I want for custom radiator hoses. I installed a new cast aluminum deep finned trans pan on my TH400. I reconfigured my exhaust system to tuck within the frame and work with my corvette rear susp. I just need to finish the last 3 ft of pipe to the exhaust tip. I bought a nice stainless double wall exhaust tip that is 12" wide and I'm planning to splice in both 2.5" exhaust pipes into this one exhaust tip. You can kind of see in the third pic that the exhaust tubes come together to go under the rear susp in the center. I'm mocking up the brake hard lines and I have the corvette rear sway bar on. My biggest hurdle now is just the brakes, not that it's hard just need to do it. I have the Hydroboost unit and I need to plumb the lines and buy a MC.
