Ditto on the AC swap. Love the truck. Also love the option KS has for using tag from the year of the truck. Have you had it tagged before? I need to tag my truck this week, but don't have a 71 tag yet.

Yeah, the "funny" thing is I just got my antique tags the week before I got the 1969 tag. I had WA plates on it, but they expired at the end of Aug., so I had to do an inspection and then register it. Just another trip to the court house and probably pay a little more money (kinda a PITA...oh well...I need to go there anyway to transfer the title of my 91 parts truck too)


Oh, I've been driving the truck to work for the last 2 weeks and haven't had any problems with it. I got my jeep cherokee e-fan today, but have other things to take care of tonight. Maybe tomorrow I'll get it in.

The total install time was about an hour. Pretty darn easy. I used an adjustable fan switch with a probe that goes into the radiator. Seems to work well. I wired it so that the fan can run with the ignition off. The fan will run for about 30 seconds after I turn the truck off. I don't know how much the fan is running while going down the highway. I might wire up a temporary light so I know when its running and if I need to turn the fan switch up a little more. Overall, the truck runs pretty cool, about 1/4 way or maybe a little less on the stock gauge.

While I was under the hood waiting for the water temp to come up, I also advanced the timing a little. Seems not to want to stall out quite as much when starting from a stop. The 2.73 gears and starting in 2nd isn't the greatest combo, but it works. (1st is just stupid for normal driiving)

The fan is CBG4F250. I got summit to price match moparonlineparts.com for 56.47

So I did a few more "quality" items to make the truck more enjoyable to drive. Finally got my exhaust manifold leak stopped, put in new window seals, trimmed part of the throttle cable so I can go WOT, and installed a amplified antenna.

So with that, I am now ready to move on to getting the engine out of the 91 parts truck I pulled it into the garage and got the a/c clutch to engage. I thought I'd done this same thing before, but apparently not. I jumped the pressure switch and the compressor clutch engaged....so it looks like it works, just needs charged....which I'll do with R-134 once I get it into No Buck.

So the first part I removed was the retractable light....which will also go into no-buck. That's it for day!

Possibly coming to a truck near you: MEGASQUIRT

In case you don't know what megasquirt is, its a cheaper kinda DIY fuel injection controller that is highly programmable and customizable. Its kinda the geeky guy's fuel injection system. You can use it to fuel inject about anything.

For now, I'm just going to put the stock TBI setup in the truck, but in the future I may switch to megasquirt, just because I can I'm not sure, but I'm doing a little reading about it. Or.....maybe I'll put it on a different vehicle in the future. Just an idea

No update. The guy with the red 'burb from the Good Guys show called me and told me I could just buy his out right. I decided I can't buy it right now.

The Cummins Burb is going to have to wait. I'm starting on an MBA in February and we have an '03 Suburban already, so there is no need or time for a new project (as much as I'd like to have one )

Although, through the process of that guy offering to trade for his 'burb and what not, I did get authorization to do the Cummins Burb project. Just not now. I figure in 2 years when I'm done with the MBA and my son will be 5, it will be a good project that he'll be able to help me on

hey ack would you mind posting some more pics of the fan assembly. I put some fans on my truck that a buddy gave me but its too wide so I would like to see if your fan fits in between the side tanks.

Over the last few nights I've been plugging away at getting the TBI engine out of the donor truck.

Tonight I got it out! I pulled the engine and tranny as a unit. I disconnected the wiring from the ECM and set it on top of the engine along with wiring lugs, cruise control module and a few other things. I figured it would be much easier to work through the harness on the engine stand than mess with it in the truck. Plus, then I didn't have to go to the effort of labeling all of the stuff. I don't think I had to cut any wires. I just disconnected the fuel lines at the fuel filter (and a joint right next to fuel filter for the return line.

One thing that I find highly annoying with this vintage of truck is how half of the crap is metric, and half of it is standard. I did manage to round off a bolt on the fly wheel because I was using impact sockets to take it off, and they are too thick to seat properly, and it got rounded off. A few minutes with a cut off wheel and air chisel took care of that

Another thing I have to look at is the drivers side exhaust manifold. It is still on the engine. The alternator/power steering support bracket bolt to the front two studs on the manifold and I haven't gotten that bracket off to remove the manifold. I figure that will be easier on the engine stand too.

Tomorrow I'll clean up the engine. It is a greasy mess from an intake manifold leak. So I already have an intake manifold gasket. I'm probably going to install a new rear main seal and oil pan gasket since its MUCH easier to do it now than later. Hopefully with that, I won't have any oil leak issues.

I tore down the engine. The inside of the engine looks pretty good. No sludge.



I'm going to finish getting the intake manifold mating surfaces cleaned up, and change the rear main seal, oil pan gasket, and valve cover gaskets and it will pretty much be ready to go in.

As much as I'd love to dive into the 'burb I don't think building a burb will get me closer to retirement (so I can spend ALL my time building vehicles, btw I'm 31)

Yeah, I pulled the oil pan today and there was only one thing in there: oil Megasquirt is just an idea that I may incorporate into something in the future. No plans now.

I got the rear main seal and oil pan gasket replaced. Took off the intake manifold, cleaned up, and re-installed, and then new valve cover gaskets. Based on what I could see, it looks like the majority of the oil leaks were from the valve covers. There was also some oil on the intake, probably do to leaky manifold bolts.

So the engine is all put back together and ready to go in. I have to pull a few more wires from the donor truck (ALDL, speedo buffer, etc) and then I'm going to try to "pre-install" them into No-buck so when I do do the swap its quicker.

Sounds like a plan. I guess you already have plenty of TBI experience? I have only one install under my belt but it went pretty straight forward. I can't believe how reliable these motors are. I picked an old 93 buick up for the motor to put in my sons truck. It had 223K+ miles on it. I cleaned it up and sealed the valve covers put it in his, he driven it every day for a year and never has even had to add oil. It just goes and goes. They are a very good and cheap candidate for an carbed 350 upgrade.

This is first TBI engine of any kind. A lot is similar to TPI in some respects though.
